Hey guys, so one of my family members distills his own grog and it has sparked some interest in me in that area. Anyway I knocked up a 23l blackrock apple cider kit and tucked it away about a month ago. The bottles are currently carbonating under the laundry sink (in case of explosions) and with these stinking temps in vic I thought I might as well refrigerate a bottle. Anyways to get to the point, I cracked it this morning and was pleasantly suprised, lightly carbonated and refreshing and even tastes pretty good, keeping in mind this is my first cider and they're known to go horribly wrong. I highly recommend giving it a try if you like a tasty beverage and have a little room to store all the bottles (I used 1.25's). Just like shrooms, keep everything sterile.. you don't wanna ferment any nasties. hope everyone enjoyed reading this and remember, it's beer o'clock somewhere in the world

Home brewing and hydroponics are huge around here, I really want to give brewing a try.

I have made my own ghetto wine, but would like to actually try something worth a shit, I have the room for it too.

I've made quite a bit of beer and cider in the past. Never tried my hand at mead - always wanted to. There was also a saki (sp?) kit available that I was interested in but I ended up tearing down my setup due to space.

I made a killer IPA and a punch cider.

Me and my friend really want to go in on a brewing kit and make some brews. I really just want to as a hobby. My friend thinks its a good business idea but we have no experience. We have a local shop around the corner that sells stuff just for home brewing. Probably going to give it a shot.

Definitely give it a try before blindly opening a shop. It's a nice pipe dream idea of a business but you really have to get a good feel for craft beer brewing and the process before undertaking it on a large scale.

Brewing is hugely popular where I'm at and there are more microbreweries than I could shake a stick at so you must be able to make a decent living from it even in a competitive environment. All I drink is microbrew anyhoo.

Yeah it's not really even a possibility in my eyes. He thinks that after making a few batches he'll be able to make the perfect craft beer and make money. I'd rather play around with it as a hobby. I just started making cheeses and growing mushrooms so I'll prob throw in homebrewing as well. lol

Its pretty hard to nail down a solid recipe and method thatll produce a brew good enough to market. Home brews are enjoyable but unless youre a brewmaster you likely wont be able to compete in the industry.

Definitely try brewing though, hella fucking fun!

I never thought about making cheese before. Wow. I'm afraid seeing the process of how cheese is made would probably turn me away from enjoying the final product.

I don't know, I think if your palette is discerning of certain flavors, you can come up with something unique and make some decent loot doing so.  Start by making small batches and shopping your brew around to local restaurants.

For some reason I feel like any random person isnt allowed to just brew shit and sell it. You need licensing and shit. At least around me.

There might be a brew coop in your area that you can look into. Other fellow brewers in the area get together to trade their final products. It's a great way to gather information and also network within your community.

Best brew I ever made was a fortified blackberry "port" desert wine.  Aged at least a year with oak it was really good.

Made beer too  but mostly fruit wine.  I got best results using fresh, ripe wild fruit then keep it simple.  Good brew is all about the quality of ingredients.

I'd definitely like to play around with various fruits/berries but I still need to learn the basics. Some of these brews you guys have shared sound delicious.
