Who else here makes their own beer?

I'm drinking a glass of a nice Brown Ale I bottled up what, 2 months ago?

This shit is on point! I'm honestly surprised at how much I enjoy this beer.

I'm still doing extracts, and I was between stepping into all grain, or kegging. Welp like clockwork my buddy calls and gives me dibs on his kegarator, so that decision was made for me! :grin:

Been playing with Brewtarget (It's free) as I make this stuff so I can start seeing whats what when I start fiddling with recipes.

So who else brews? What recipi ya like? Something ya got as your always-in-the-fridge steadfast? Any pointers or funny stories?


I'm ganna go make me a grilled-mada-effin-cheeeese now.

Considering it. Hmm...maybe i will. It's cheap as fuck and with a little experience you can make decent beer. My dad used to but he said 1 batch was great,1 okay, and 1 terrible. Not very consistant is it?

Nice man. I brewed up a brown ale about 6/months ago but I think it has some contamination because it wound up a bit of sourness. Not enough to stop people from having at them though.

I love brewing. Absolutely love it.

I brewed a "weed beer" one time by dry hopping a gallon jug of a light home brewing beer with about 3 grams of weed and I'm not joking man, it might have been the best beer I have ever made and I have done somewhere around 10-15 batches. The weed taste really came out and the effects were pretty fun to :smile:

Brown ales are my all time favorite beer dude. So good. I think for a homebrew, brown ale has one of the highest potentials to make you happy with what you made.

Dude surprisingly it really isn't to cheap. I thought that my answer when I was 16 and trying to get wasted every chance I could. Maybe I get hosed though. for me it costs about 25$ a batch. typically. And this is tax free (if paid in cash from the ingredient supplier which is pretty tight)

If you are comparing it to good beer then it's a good deal for sure !

Well brewers yeast costs a buck a small pack. I have a mr.beer machine that was $100 and only came with a few packs. What system u use?

I mean if you wanna just throw down and get booze for cheap...
Get some:
  • champagne yeast - this has a high alcohol tolerance.
  • Big jug of apple juice or your favorite juice
  • Big bag of sugar
  • 5 gallon home depot bucket
  • 2-3 gallons distilled water

Mix all that shit up and throw in the champagne yeast. Let sit for ~2 weeks. You got booze. You can let it sit a while longer and it'll smooth out a bit, but not much.

As far as beer goes, the last 2-3 brews I've done have really turned out well. It's relatively simple if you have the right equipment and take your time. I mean commercial beer didn't just magically come to be, it's a refined and well controlled recipe. There's no reason you can't make an earnest attempt at this at home.

Brewing up 5 gallons of beer cost me ~$40-$60 depending on the style I'm going to brew. Plus all the equipment cost which can get substantial, especially if you get into kegging and full grains.

But shit, take a look at "a brew day with StoneSun". There's some pride in busting out a setup like that. Not to mention an eight tap cooler full of beer...
