Bean dip, layered or otherwise

I'll post my bean dip recipe; it always goes over well.
Basic Bean Dip (like Frito Lay):
1 can vegetarian refried beans
1 packet taco seasoning
Mix the beans with the seasoning packet and enjoy. Tastes almost exactly like Frito Lay dip at a fraction of the price. You can use regular refried beans with lard if you want. I like vegetarian for dips and the regular for eating.

Layered Dip:
1 batch of the bean dip you just made
1 jar salsa (mild, medium, or hot whatever you like)
1 packet ranch seasoning mix (optional)
1 8 oz package of cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
1 medium tub of sour cream
shredded lettuce
sliced olives
Use some kind of glass serving dish so you can see the layers. I use pyrex baking pan. Spread the prepared bean dip on the bottom as your first layer. Your second layer is the salsa, spread that over the bean dip layer. Mix the optional ranch seasoning packet with the sour cream, you can also use an onion soup packet instead or none at all. Carefully spread that on top of the salsa trying not to disturb the salsa layer. If just using plain sour cream stir it up a little and it will spread easier. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the sour cream mix layer. This is usually where I stop but if you wish you can add the shredded lettuce and the sliced olives on top make a nice presentation. Tastes better if you prepare it the day before use and keep it in the refrigerator. If you do that it's better to save the lettuce until you're ready to serve to keep it crisp and from turning brown.
