    #3006849 - 08/15/04 11:13 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian and I have noticed the lack of vegeatian-type dishes and recipes...Its all fine and dandy that there many good-sounding :piggy:carnivore/omnivore:piggy: recipes here but i think that we are left out.

Anyone here a practicing vegetariians? Vegans...?

E-Z TVP "burger"

makes one big burger or two small burgers. Works wonders with the George Foreman grill.

1 c. TVP ( i prefer the grainy, smaller sized kind)
2 heaping TBS of salsa
1 beaten, egg white
flour ( i use whole wheat flour)
salt
pepper
* your favorite spices (i.e. crushed red pepper, cumin, cheyenne pepper, etc.)

1. combine the TVP and salsa and egg white in a bowl. Dont bother to add moisture to the TVP the burger will fall apart.

2. add the salt and pepper and your spices.

Now if the mixture is a bit crumbly. Let it sit and the TVP will absorb the moisture from the salsa and egg white. Add some flour slowly and make like a ball of the mixture in the bowl.

Now the fun. form into a pattie and toss on the George.. I fyou dont have a George, heat up pan (non-stick if you have it ) with a bit of oil or non-stick spray. cook over med-high heat for 5 minutes. At this point dont let the pattie stay too long on one side too long. After 5 minutes, flip.

Enjoy.

I made this interesting recipe up after a drunken fiasco. Goes good with tabasco sauce and musatrd on a kaiser roll with lettuce and tomatoes.

vegan = nothing from animals.. won't even eat potatos if they were flavoured with chicken broth
vegetarian = doesn't consume meat
Lacto-ovo = eats eggs and dairy

FREEGAN -
Eats meat and dairy if not "paying" for the corruption.

VEGAN -
More like no leather, gelatin, glue, or chocolate. (And meats and dairy or course)

I used to be a vegan, back in the day :-) For about two years almost, and then I ended up sorta traveling for a little bit (common story) and I had to behold the power of cheese.

I have been a vegetarian for 6 years, for the sheer fact that I cannot put somehting into my body which has been mutated with steriods and hormones just to feed our greedy country. Thats why 12 year old girls are runin' around with c cups these days. All those hormones, and the mass reproduction, that isnt even sanitary or safe for anyone's or anything's consumption.

The meat game. Yucky.

A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

I've been vegetarian for about 6 years as well. Lately, I've been narrowing my diet down to raw, fresh fruits (which includes the 'vegetable fruits' like avacado, cucumber, squashes, etc.) as much as possible.

My philosophy is that nature is giving us a clue with the fact that fruits are the only foods created with the express purpose of being eaten by another species.

Usually I eat very simply...i.e. a cantelope for breakfast, avacados and cucumber for lunch, lots of bananas, apples etc. I am trying to eat only one kind of fruit at a time. I will still usually have one meal a day that includes cooked/dead food like cheese pizza or something. Sorry no good recipes.

The closer I get to my ideal diet, the better I feel physically, mentally and spiritually.

I get my protein from
Eggs ( egg replacers; too much saturated fat and choelesterol in yolks.)
Cheeses-cottage, feta( work at an Italian restaurant so it is free),
fat-free anything individual cheese slices. Preferably non-dairy.
Milk- skim.
Beans
Tofu and tofu-like products.

Ares I am a vegetarian for the sole purpose of wanting to know what I am eating and I detest preservatives and additives.

Anyone have any good recipes to share?

I'm not quite at my ideal diet, so milk, eggs and cheese are still on the menu.

adventually, I'd like to rely more on avacados, soy milk and raw almonds as sources of protein.

keep the almond consumption down to a low. The are LOADED with Saturated fats. Avacados are fine and soy milk is A GREAT SOURCE OF PROTEIN!

Hi all. Wow. Finally a post on here that I actualy know something about. lol. I have been a Vegan for a tad over 20 years and was a lacto-ovo Vegetarian for 5 years prior to that. I'd like to post one of my favorite Vegan soup recipes, "Cream" of Mushroom Soup.

Ingredients:
1.5 lbs sliced mushrooms (regular "buttons" or creminis work nice))
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 lb dry roasted unsalted cashews, coarsely chopped
5 cups water
2 to 3 cubes veggie boullion, dissolved
1/4 cup minced parsely
1/4 tsp. chili powder

Directions:
1) In a 4 quart pot, saute the mushrooms in a little vegetable broth (or use a vegan spread) till tender. Add garlic. Saute on low heat 5 minutes.
2) In a blender, puree the cashews with the water until VERY smooth. Add to the mushrooms.
3) Add the boullion and chili powder. Cook on low heat, stirring frequently, until the soup begins to thicken. Add more water if needed. Add parsely and serve.

Honestly, it is quite delicious. Try it.

I'd like to become a vegetarian, or at least.. mostly vegetarian with some meat from time to time. Only problem is, I'm scared I will die from malnutrition or something. I already don't get enough nutrients as it is.. sometimes I eat meat just because I am so hungry and it's so cheap and easy to get anywhere. But I must admit that the idea of living on primarily raw fruits and vegetables is VERY appealing to me.. just that the options are so limited- when you go out to eat, meat is usually the center focus of every meal. You say I want a bowl of fruit and people look at you funny. Our culture revolves around carnivorous people who are obsessed with their meat.. how do you get around that? When someone serves you food it's usually meat. Now I don't complain because beggars can't be choosers and I'm fucken hungry.. but meat doesn't make me feel good. What I really want is some fruit. God, I daydream about fruits and vegetables sometimes, but it always ends up meat. *grumble* I guess once I start grocery shopping for myself so that wont be a problem.

But I mean.. fast food is out of the question if you are vegetarian.. I guess that is good. I want tips and advice.. how does a growing boy who's virtually homeless and poor get all his nutrients without eating meat in a society that is filled with meat eaters? I too noticed the lack of vegetarian dishes, and it's pretty gross.

But god how I love soy milk. I could drink it by the gallon

oh wait I just remembered... hemp seed is the single most nutritious plant on Earth. It has all the essential amino and fatty acids that the human body needs, it has more optimal protein than soy, and in an easier-to-digest form, and it is loaded with vitamins and minerals. Too bad hemp is illegal in the US, and killing animals is encouraged. what a fucked up country.

Eating meet=bad. bad karma

I don't eat it because if I can't bring myself kill it with my own two hands then I don't have any business eating it! That and nobody wants to get eaten so I try to respect that.

Thank god for MorningStar Farms. Mmmmm.
