That's stupid everyone knows the way to stimulate an economy is to give the rich tax breaks and bailouts so that the money can trickle down.  :sadyes:

Whether or not the money actually "trickles down" when not taxed is open to debate. Something that isn't open to debate is the fact that when it is taken through taxation, it can't "trickle down" because it's not there anymore.

What, you think the government takes everyone's money and just leaves it in a giant piggy bank somewhere?

What about all the things that were created through taxes like roads and the internet we are using right now?

Oh no, it gets spent, just generally not for the good of the people. I guess it employs people building bombs and drones these days. A better way to put it I guess is, when money is taken out of the private sector via taxation, it can't be used to expand the private sector.

I think I've already commented on infrastructure and essential services.

I'd be interested to see how this works out. At the very least it's sparking a debate.

All Fins pay taxes.
All Fins get the €800.

Therefore they all pay.

All Finns pay taxes?  Even Finns who have no income?

If you buy something in Finland you are paying 24% VAT tax on it.

If you don't have an income, the government provides for you. The only way they can't is if you're homeless, then you live off charity or crime.

Almost nobody has no money in a nation that cares for its citizens.

I don't think you're thinking this through. Most military spending goes out to private companies.  And to the general point, most of the time when economists try to measure the fiscal multiplier of government policies the number is higher for spending than for tax cuts.

I understand that most military spending goes into the private sector, but war is never in the best interests of the people, or long term economic prosperity.

Work or welfare?

Seems easy enough.

I agree that war is never in the best interests of the people, but the boom in military spending during WWII and the Cold War did a lot economically for the U.S.

that must be why the people claiming to be homeless beggars in the US have so much
money, the people in the US cares enough to give it directly to the poor instead
of forcing everyone to do it for them... oh wait... we're forced to do that too

Yep. Taking greed outside of the equation makes things much easier to redistribute.

What about Europe, though? How much was spent replacing indutrial equipment that would have been productive for years longer had it not been destroyed in the first place? How much was spent reconstructing homes, commercial properties, etc that could have been better spent on other areas of the economy? Yes, war is good for certain sectors, but it is never a net gain.

forcing it on people also takes the generosity out of the majority, a prime
example is how democrats tend to donate to charity, dick cheney and his wife
donated 77% of his gross adjusted income to charity each year. joe biden
donated less that $400 per year. where's the generosity of the people that
demand that we be more generous. I know that hillary clinton likes to donate to
the charitable foundation that she established and heads, in return for being
the CEO she gets a hefty paycheck that tends to be a lot larger than the total
of her donations... that seems more like money laundering. Bill and Melinda
Gates foundation, it's the same, Mark Zuckerberg, he and his wife also did the
same thing. the liberals sure are generous with other people's money but they
seem to be a little tight with their own, I mean they donate it to themselves as
if they're some needy children

Well... When your nation is rich enough to be able to build that kind of safety net, you're doing something right and should definitely implement it.

It eliminates extreme poverty. That fact alone reduces crime, improve health, increases education. It's level up. The rest is just an increase in quality of life in general.

But yes, you will have to sacrifice roughly the cost of a new car through taxes every year if you're making good money

Why should I have to sacrifice anything?

I consider myself pretty liberal, and this doesn't make any sense to me. If you give every single person 800 Euro's, then everything remains exactly the same as before.

The fuck????

Well of course.  But the argument was about the economic effectiveness of government spending and tax cuts, not whether militarism is good for the economy of the whole planet.

Only if you're paying 800 Euros or more in taxes each month.  The idea is to create a income floor for the poor.
