I have a friend that has water heated by an aquarium heater at the bottom of his terrarium, and a metal screen to keep cakes above the water level. What do you recommend as the best way to keep water sterile from mold? He added H202 and a bunch of salt to the water to kill suspected contams that he smelled from the water, and this is only two days after a change of water and cleaning! He saw some kind of iodine based betadine solution at the grocery store, but wasn't sure if that would evaporate and cause problems for the cakes. Any other ideas to keep the water sterile without causing harm to his babies?
