Very strange uninvited/unexpected Comcast tech visit think I'm under Surveillance.

Just had a Comcast tech knock on my door and want to "measure for interference".

At the split where the modem was in my room, then proceeded to plug in his measurement device, say there was no interference from the drop to modem, use a small wrench to tighten down all the cable connectors to the splitter and modem.

He is currently working on the cable drop running from the pole to the house, I'm going to check where he is working later to see if there's anything odd going on. He does have a legit Comcast bucket truck and Comcast vest on but has tattoos on his hands and face and a giant ducking  beard. Not saying he's trying to rob me or anything but he doesn't look like your normal xfinity tech. Could it be cover for police or DEA or someshit that I've been up to?

man unless you're really into some deep shit I highly doubt they'd go to that extent (dressing up as a comcast dude complete with the truck and all) just to see what you're up to lol

So you're saying that you think tattoos and a beard on a comcast tech would be really weird, but perfectly normal on a cop, posing as a comcast tech?

Cops can have tats. AFAIK some (most?) departments have grooming / facial hair regulations, but would probably be exceptions for undercover work, obviously. Not sure about feds.


But comcast employees can probably have beards and tats too. (Tats too? lol)


I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Oh it gets better my internet is STILL fucking out. It was working with some packet loss and such before he showed up and now it doesn't work at all. Called crapcast and there sending out another tech tomorrow which means I miss out on south park and LOL tonight.

Since the Time Warner merger fell through, Comcast has realized that they need to provide quality products to the people they service NOW in order to make it in the industry.  Took this long for them to realize this...

Ingress, which he was tracking, is quite common actually when it starts to get colder/drier out.  A majority of the interference that the return path gets, is in the drop side going into the customers home.  Usually loose fittings.  Sometimes the subs fault, but usually service/contractor related. 

There is a HUGE push at the moment to fix return issues due to a bunch of upgrades that are coming for the data side.  One of the biggest issues being run into are people being paranoid that they're trying to spy on them or something.  Not like that at all.  Making the return spectrums cleaner, which help improve the customers experience in the entire area as well as raise the areas own metrics. 

Its quite common for subs to be "trapped out" or "Attenuated" if it can't be resolved at that time.  Sounds like it was a line tech since they had a bucket. If he was in a personal vehicle or had nothing showing Comcast, I'd be concerned.  If you're ever wondering, ask to see ID, they all have issued badges. 

The line techs will usually try to make contact and resolve it real time so that they don't have to trap out the subscriber.  If they couldn't get it resolved and it was affecting everyone else in the node, they more than likely will trap you out and put in for the service side to send someone out to see what's up.

In all honesty, some crazy shit has been seen in the field.  The last thing anyone of them care about, is what someone is doing in their home.  This push on the return side affects their raises, so be ready to see more of it nation wide.

If that's the case, they may have trapped you out...  It will normally affect everything return related.  X1 services, On Demand, Internet and Phones.  It really is an inconvenience.  There could be a noise outage or they are still working on it, but can't say for sure.

If your house is putting out enough ingress to where its affecting businesses or causing a noise outage, they have to trap it out in order to clear it.

So they "trapped me out"? Disconnected my service because the line was causing interference for the rest of the block?

I can't say for sure, but from what you describe, that's what it sounds like to me.  Your tv should work unless its X1 services. 

If they trapped you out, that is normally last resort for horrible ingress.  Its more than likely not just your block that was affected.  The entire node plus any nodes that may be combined return wise with yours.

If its a 4 by at their head end, it could be affecting a fuck ton of subs. 1000+  Its hard to say since all areas are different.

Every idiot in my city has a neck tat it seems these days. It's no longer the barrier to employment it used to be.
I saw some weirdo sitting outside my house in a car the other day so I went out and asked him who the fuck he was he showed me some private eye badge and I told him it looked liked he got it in a cracker jack box. I called the cops and they confirmed he's watching my neighbor. Why would you let him in your house uninvited?  That's not normal or safe...  Comcast needs to contact you, ask permission and make an appointment to come into your house.  You shouldn't even be answering the door for strangers...
