Comcast cable broadband, why has my upload speed tripled in the past week?

I've had Comcast cable broadband since 2001 and it started out with about 3mbps down and 256kbps upload (about 30Kb/S). Over the years the download speed has increased from 3mbps to 6mbps and finally 10mbps. The upload speed has stayed relatively the same until last year when they doubled it.
Now within the past week or so I've run numerous speed tests and the upload speed has ROCKETED up. Is there a reason for this or is it a fluke?
My latest speed test through www.speakeasy.net was this Quote:
Download Speed: 10969 kbps (1371.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 2206 kbps (275.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Holy shit, a 275KB/s upload speed.
Post your results.

The reason is probably this:
Comcast, like most cable providers, uses general neighborhood hubs that have limited bandwidth. The more people in your area with their service, the worse the service is.
Now... Verizon just spent the last three months rolling out their new fiber optics network. In the process, they sent out legions of door to door BLOOD SUCKING LEECHES to tell us all how much better and cheaper it is than Comcast.
My guess is, most of your neighbors are providing liquid sustenance for the monolithic vampire that is Verizon.
Enjoy your newly restored cable service.

That's the thing though. I called up Comcast inquiring about how fast was the maximum they offered in my area and they told me 8mbps/768kbps was the fastest possible that their service was provided at...
And I'm getting 11mbps/2.2mbps.

Maybe their quoted figure is a lowered estimate to avoid tons of complaining customers when they hit market saturation...

Maybe you should call them up so they can fix it.
Not sure why this is an issue honestly...I'd be stoked.

That's kind of bad. I have a shitty $25/month DSL and my rates are:
150 KB/s down and 50 KB/s up (approximately)

Damn, that's bad on both fronts.
My friend leeches a signal from his neighbors unprotected wireless DSL connecton and he get's 750KB/s down and about 128KB/s up. He used to have the same service they had at $22 per month.
