I think the gist is that there is an enzymatic reaction that creates dmt... I don't know much about methionine though.

The OTC supplement SAM-e main ingredient is S-adenosylmethionine with a warning to avoid MAOIs, also people using the supplement 5-hydroxy-tryptophan should avoid the use of MAOIs. Interesting, but sounds far fetched to me.

Check out the 'Tryptamine FAQ' on EROWID's site, and there is more info, not just on the organic sources of DMT but I also came across
this tidbit of info--'consuming either candy bars, or better, tryptophan itself,to boost serotonin, with 25 to 50Mg's of Harmine/Harmaline [MAOI] will cause one's pineal gland to synthesize substantial amounts of 5-MEO-DMT, enough for psychoactive/psychedelic effects to be brought on.' It also go's on to mention the consumption of Melatonin [another serotonin precursor] along with MAO I's, has also produced very noticeable psychoactive effects in man. No mention of Methionine though, it recommends replacing Tryptophan with 5-HTP, along with the MAOI, maybe increasing the pineal glands production of 5-MEO-DMT. As others have stated, there are a ship-load of substances to be 'extremely' wary of when the consumption of an MAOI is to be undertaken. Do MAO I's allow previously 'quickly' passed through toxins to instead cross the blood/brain barrier, thus causing potentially severe medical crisis's? :mushroom2: :mushroom2:

The interesting thing about this piece of info is that there is no evidence whatsoever that the pineal gland makes 5-MeO-DMT under whatever condition at all. So your source is spouting bogus science. Taking tryptophan with harmines with MAOI however does have real risks: namely to come down with dangerous or lethal serotonin syndrome (aka "prozac poisoning")

So as far as we know there are no leprechauns, no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and there are no DMT derivatives in the pineal gland. I'm sorry, your source is wrong and either creating or parrotting nonscience.

I read in a few places that the pineal gland does produce DMT. Just wet dreams of psychonauts?

Can you give me some links you believe to be "good" science on the pineal gland?

It has been hypothesized that n,n, Dimethyltryptamine is endogenously manufactured within the pineal gland. This is not 5 MeO-DMT, though, and furthermore, it is only hypothesized.

According to Shulgin, and others, the necessary components for the manufacture of DMT are all present within the human encephalon, however the direct area associated with its production is a matter of contention...

Check it, if you'd like to "trip" on endogenous tryptamines, your best bet is probably to meditate...

Taking tryptophan and an MAOi sounds like a fantastic way to give yourself serotonin syndrome.
