PNW Chantrelles?

I literally know next to nothing about edibles but I now have become more interested outside of just actives. I found a youngin and oldun....they were in a well kept baseball field along with many other interesting mushrooms. I looked into chantrelles and these are close but I just feel like there is something wrong about the gills; they don't seem to come down far enough on to the stem. Attempting to spore print but I assume it will be white. The margin of the cap curves down. The stem is really broad. Unless my nose deceives me, I would say the scent has a peppery sweetness.

Well I wish I would have investigated for 10 more seconds and I would have answered my own ID request. Not chantrelles....the gills are not forked. If anybody could tell me what these are though I would be more than happy to hear.

Nevermind.....the gills are forked on portions of the gills. I need to think before I type and stop rushing to judgement. But they aren't ridge like....whereas the pictures I am googling aren't even really gills at all.

Sorry not chants
your not likely to find them out in the grass. They're usually in the deep forest or right off a trail. Almost everywhere in pine fir and cedar forest.
They're almost never round unless very young, especially the whites. And the gills go all the way down the stem, the stem cap and gills are all kinda one piece, and they shred like chicken meat.
Not sure what you got there if I had to guess I'd say not sure so not to sound stupid.

!? I don't know what that is but my experience with Chantrelle is that I found them in higher elevations in thick old woods type enviornment. And they are golden. Once you find them you never forget. Check em out at the store or farmer market (by then they should b in season) or hook up with a local mycology group by you. They go on edible hunts all the time and are a wealth of info on that subject keep up the good hunt and research

Thanks guys. I actually have become more passionate about mushrooms to the point where I would actually like to go talk to some of those local mushroom groups. Not to mention you can bet a few of them are into hunting actives.

Also after further research I discovered that these are very possibly a poisonous Clitocybe. But on the upside I believe I found a really nice patch of Agaricus Campestris (edible field mushroom) ....the PNW is making offerings.....but I haven't found a thing that is active.
Am I to assume that if I find Pan Foes....I should be able to find Cincts nearby? In the same vein, am I to assume that Foes (which are usually in well manicured grass) could lead me to some Stuntzii? This whole Stuntzii in the grass is throwing me off. If they are saprotrophic mushrooms then how could they be found in the grass? Trees would have to be nearby correct?
A lot of questions I have......learning I am.

I too am a young padawan at this but a good mushroom field guide for your area is the first Must Have. When I moved to Oregon one of my friends parents are mycologists and had those books everywhere. Us being young focused mainly on the actives but when it came to edibles and poisonous ones he had more knowledge just from hanging with his parents. As for my first ever Stuntzii lawn find. All i know is that there is alot of tree dander both piney and the leafy green kind. They use woodchips that they make from fallen trees and limbs in from the parks and town I'm sure so that is everywhere also. and i have a 'theory' because they were found right where people park and can enter the grass ... maybe??..just maybe?? someone deposited spores from another park where they could of just been.. that's been floating through mi mind since my research is showing me ones that are growing on woodchips And I wonder.. how did these get here? Now I've been scouring in a huge radius and no other lawns are showing signs...... yet;)

Brosky....I am blown away by your find. It has me baffled....like I said. How indeed did they get there? They are wood lovers. I have been searching through some of the Shroomery threads and have read that Stuntzii will show up on grass/fields that have been established for some time. 3-10 years old I believe someone said. This is all pure conjecture it sounds like. I am going to ask in the PNW tips thread. See if anybody knows.
