*Official PNW 2013 Active Finds*
    #18006174 - 03/24/13 10:13 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

I know without pictures it didn't happen, but you'll just have to trust me for now and I'll get you pictures soon. Found some nice little batches of ovoid pins at my ovoid spot today. A little early, but they are starting to pop. Hope it stays as nice out as it has been, looking forward to an early spring. Not sure if this is the first find of the spring season in the PNW/Seattle area, but if it is, I will be sure to get some pics posted asap.

I believe you, I have seen pictures of ovoids from Seattle this time of year. When you get the opportunity please take a few pictures of them even if they are just pins, I personally would love to see them.

I found a large patch growing in some wood chips last year in city limits. It had fruited beautifully through the beginning of May

Oh, and how does one get to be the first one on the official thread of something, like say 2013 ovoids?

Thanks! I'm just excited for things to be starting back up again at this magical ovoid patch. I found it last year and it lasted late into the summer until the dry spell lasted too long, but then once fall kicked in it put out some massive beauties. No I just need to figure out how to help the slug problem it seems to have. It's a public place so I can't exactly leave out little bowls of beer for them. I guess I may just have to let them take their share and be happy with what's left.

I hope to see many other people finding things soon in the PNW!

Congrats Hag! :woot: Those Ovoids are looking great.:seriousthumbsup: Now about the slug problem you are having. If I were you I would go to the spot in the evening and dump finely crushed oyster shells over your woodchip bed. I have used oyster shells in my garden against slugs with great success. The shells will cut up the slugs keeping them at bay. Oyster shells are organic too so you don't have to use beer or chemicals. :billnye:

To help with your slug problem you can get snail/slug bait which is some kind of salt that they go for ahead of anything else pretty much. It is totally non-toxic to anything aside from slugs and snails I am going to put some at my Ovoid spot this year as soon as the rains start getting heavy.

from what im to understand wine caps arnt common hear but out east every place i found ovoids had wine caps which start fruiting a month sooner.

they are Giant easy to ID mushrooms , so pretty much you scout them out and when ovoid season comes check those spots and you generally find them
