Perlite vs. Geolite...

Which do most of you prefer, Perlite or Geolite? Is there a specific reason why you choose on over the other? Your thoughts are appreciated. - CH - PS- Hell, if you use something else, like lava rock, speak up and tell us why.

geolite kicks ass,it's cleaner than perlite, doesn't reflect light, which causes shrooms to grow downwards(something that plagues perlite users),it's much easier to wash and reuse than perlite and provides a much more stable base for your cakes/casings.
perlite makes a nice soup in your terrarium.

i cant find the geolite stuff so i bought 2 clay pots smashed them in to 1- 1/2 inch pieces loaded in to a pillow case P.C.ed @15 for 20 mins allowed to cool placed broken pot pieces around the 2 bubble sticks in the PMP added just enough H2O to almost cover the broken pots and get the sticks bubbling, then i added an inch or so of perlite on top of all of that and it prevented the perlite "soup" that happens with straight perlite in a PMP. So far so good i would take pics and show the inside but she just got loaded with cakes to test if the clay pots and perlite combo works well.
any one else use clay pots?

Geolite all the way. May sound pricey at first though but in the long run, you'll spend a lot more buying new bags of perlite every couple months. Geolite can be washed and reused all the time!
and geolite is sexier!

Neither. Lava rocks from your friendly hardware man does the trick for me just fine.

I just Perlite yesterday, now I find out Geolite is better. Should I go out a buy some Geolite (if I can find it) with the very last of my cash, or can I just stick with Perlite and still get good results?

Stic kwith the Perlite. It works great. Most people here are very nit-picky though. Take all advice as good, but take it all with a grain of salt. Shrooms are easy to grow. It'just takes time and practice.

"Can Geolite be purchased from most gardening stores like Perlite can? ..or is it a little more difficult to find? " - CH -
When I got mine from a hydro shop it was 14.99$ a bag, then I went to the nursery and found some for 7.99$ a bag, so it may be worth your while to look at nurserys first, ask for hydrokorrels.
Geolite is so much a less pain in the ass than perlite, I wouldnt recommend perlite to my worst enemy. Geolite and the poor mans pod, with a dunk and roll/double sided casing is the only way to go. Growing shrooms has never been easier.

i use perlite, but i dont know how anything else works, but perlite does the trick for me for sure Geolite seems to work better though, best way to find out is to try each yourself and compare results. and lava rocks too then, just to see how worthy it is as well eventually you will say fuck a cake, and go with grains anyways, but yeah cakes are basically fool proof
