Better than perlite or expanded clay pelets?
    #1821669 -

Hey, I was wondering if there was anything better than perlite or expanded clay pelets for fruiting mushrooms?

obviously he means is there a better way to humidify your fruiting chamber than perlite or expanded clay pellets. think about it next time, your a smart fella! no need to post if your just going to nit-pick his post.

To answer your question, not really. You could get an ultra-sonic or cool-mist humidifier, but that is expensive. You could also use Geolite or Hydroton(sp?). they are supposed to be better, but im not sure, as i only use perlite, because it is cheap. You can get it at walmart for like 4 bucks a bag.

Grow rox will be better. They hold more water and air in them then both perlite or geolite. Like lava rock that is as light as tanbark. Only prob, hard to find and cost bucks and they break easier then geolite. I would have to say they can crush like perlite. In fact in a way they are like pieces of perlite about the size of geolite.
I'll try to find some and post pics.

I got so much fucking lava rock landscaping in my front yard I Might just soak some in diluted bleach and let it dry and use that. Perlite is was to fucking messy.

polymers
clay cat litter
i still think perlite is the most efficient, even if it is a mess .

Its really personal preference, as long as you can maintain the right humidity.

I'd say that geolite is more effective as well as being less messy, and it's easier to re-use... imo
