Should one sterilize the perlite/geolite(hydroton)before putting it into the fruiting chamber, or does the 1:9 peroxide/water do the trick? - CH -

It's up to you. Perlite should be pretty sterile when you open the bag, anyway.
The peroxide would be more for the standing water than anything else.

I would sterilize perlite just cause ive had bad luck with it, if youre using geolite just stick it in a big pot and boil it, drain some the excess water without removing the lid then dump it in the chamber to after its cooled for a little while. Ive heard it said that you dont need to sterilize geolite for the first use, but I do anyways cause the bags usually have a bunch of holes in em (at least mine did).

You guys are a bunch of hypocondriacs
Never took care of sterilizing perlite or geolite. A bit of peroxide in the water helps but it will break down a couple days later and become ineffective.
My geolite is standing in the pod since the beginning (around 5 months) without washing or cleaning it. Doesn't seem to cause any problem.
I would only wash the stones if I get a massive mold plague in the terrarium. Now cleaning everything becomes logic. Otherwise, it's clean enough to me.
Perlite is another thing tho.. After a month or two, it gets messy. Always a good idea to change it or cook it for a couple hours at 300F .
hope it helps.
