Peyote Farmin'

Well, first off, this is the first time I've ventured on in here. It looks like quite the place, maybe after I get a little more involved in this I can contribute here. Anyways, I'm bidding on a little peyote button on Ebay, being sold from the United Kingdom. Well, I'm new to the whole peyote growing thing. I am interested in finding some good sites that will really help me out, as far as what is best to grow in, what it requires, etc. Also, some good information on grafting would help as well, when I go back to the States this summer I will send it over discreetely, and then will probably graft it there. Well, actually, I might not graft this one, but I'll probably be bound to order more here, since I can get them here (I think) and can send them on over. Also, is there any sort of website where I can find out the laws on peyote for different countries? I understand that basically all of Europe is cool with it, but I'm not sure about Norway. I posted on Norway's sister site for the Shroomery (www.norshroom.com) asking, but not too many people go there and I only have one reply saying that he doesn't know about the laws, but says something about buying seeds in Denmark.. I searched around on here too, but I couldn't really find much, I figured it would be better to just make an all comprensive post about it. I really appreciate your help, and would really love some good links or some tips from ya'll. Peace.

If I were you, I'd get some seeds off ebay. I got 50 for about ?4. You could get these back to the states no problem, sprout 'em, get hold of some pereskiopsis... in a year you'll have a lot of peyote . As for finding info, Nan's Nook is probably the place to go for that, there's lots of good info in their archives.

Hey, thanks for the help. Well, I just won that auction, and no one came in to bid at last minute, so I got it for only $18! !!!!
I'm estatic. hehe. I'll get seeds and maybe another peyote button as well, so I can take them back with me when I go. I really want to get a peyote garden going. hehe.
When I go back, I can either send them in the mail or just stuff them away in my clothes or something. hehe.
Anyways, I'll go and check out this website. Thanks a lot! Peace.

My god, ja, I saw that fucker... and zerohero's signature, and all sorts of other pictures, and the picture of the one I am getting, and all of this stuff.. I think I'm going crazy.
Seriously, though, I can't wait to do my part to ensure this entity's survival on this planet.. it will definitely make up for the time I actually got an oppurtunity to buy some, and was misinformed about how much I was suspossed to take, so I ended up passing these little pieces around to everyone and barely got shit off of it... life's lessons suck like that.
As far as what I should grow it in, do I need normal sand? Some sort of catcus mix? I guess I'm suspossed to just mist it occasionally... I'm having troubles coming acrossed something like a tek or whatever...
Anyways, thanks for all of your help, this is quite the forum tucked away back in the Shroomery! Peace.

Mix up some cactus soil
Its got something on watering frequency, and foliar feeding which I'd recommend for if you were planning to grow these seriously for a few years.

One part commercial bagged topsoil. One part commercial bagged cow manure, compost/manure, or compost One part crushed limestone ?3/8 inch minus grade? (This bagged limestone, available from large nurseries and landscape companies, is the finest screening from a rock crusher. It contains limestone particles ranging in size from sand to pebbles that fit through a 3/8 inch screen.) 1 cup or so of powdered or pelleted limestone (or Dolomite, you want lots of Magnesium in cactus culture) per 6' pot. Peter's Professional All-Purpose Plant food (hardware or garden center)
Shit, I hope I can manage to find all this shit here.. I'm trying to downplay the whole peyote thing, but I did mention that I won an auction for a catcus, and added that I really enjoy growing them... I'll just have to ask them if there is a store where we can go and find all of this. hehe.
Thanks for finding that for me, by the way, I didn't think to look under San Pedro on there. Peace.

Hehe, eh?
Nah, I just didn't really want to mention the whole "psychadelic catcus" to the people I live with. I'm also sort of nervous about the shipping, since it is winter now... I emailed the guy and asked him what precautions he was going to take to make sure that it arrives alive. Its his responsibility to do such, after all. Peace.

True. But Norway cold?
How much can they take? I'm sure you crazy Canadians have to deal with this as well. I was reading something on here about footwarmers, or something? Or can they go a week or so in the cold without damage? Peace.

Its an expression.. but, at any rate, I'm implying that it is winter, and it is being shipped from England and everything, and it is going to be going through the mail system here...
Will it survive? Or is there something he could do to protect it from the cold? Thanks. Peace.

WEll San Pedros can live for a few years without even being planted. They grow well infoors but if you place them high up on a shelf near lights, preferably close to flourescenbt bulbs they grow ever n faster.
.. But outdoors in Norway they wilkl not survive.

Sorry I did not know you awere talking of peyote. Funny thing about it. indians sell buttons for fifty cents to a dollar a button. In amsterdam I Bought and ate 1/4 dried ounce (7 grams dried) for 85.00 That was a rip off. but that dosage is the equivelent of 500 to 500 milligrams of mescaline. UI grew this pot here for 8 years outdoors in Hawaii and then soomeone stole it. I must hae showed it to ore than 300 people in an 8 year period. And one ashole made off with it. Here is a picture. and some books, most all autographed to me by the authors except the Kleuver book. With dried buttons on the table. And sorry about the confusion over the post above. I opened the page and it was the seconf page of the post. mj btw, it takes almost 8 years for a button to mature soi I hope you have the patience. Telling strangers, even if some are your friends, could still lead to someone taking your cactus if they know what it is. Like people who accidently wander into someones pot field and take a few.

i meant: what's your average temp's in norway in winter, how long does it stay below freezing, and how do your mail carriers deliver the mail, do packages stay in trucks or unheated warehouses long?

Hehehehe! very valid questions Neuro. I too asked do they keep the mail warm?
mj
WOuldn't you have a package sent to the Post Office and pick it up there where it might be warm. However, I have order San Pedros before here in America int he winter and they arrive healthy. But then again they are healthy cacti and very strong physiology.
