Free games with Xbox live gold ~ question

I want to capitalize on my gold subscription by grabbing all the free games they give out but don't want to fill my system hard drive.

Can I use an external hard drive like you'd use with your computer? I have a 1 terra bite external hard drive. If I download the games to said hard drive can I play them right of said hard drive or do they need to be on my system in order to play them?

How do I set up external storage?

When you connect a compatible external storage drive, Xbox One will prompt you to format the drive and walk you through setting it up to store games and apps.

The basic requirements for storing games and apps on an external drive are:

    Has capacity of 256 GB or more, and
    Uses USB 3.0.

Devices that don’t meet these requirements will be treated as media storage, such as for music or video. If you have a storage device that does meet these requirements for game and app storage, you can cancel the format to use it as a media device.

If your console doesn’t recognize your external drive, see Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One.

If you cancel the format when you connect the storage device, you can still set it up as a storage device later. Here’s how:

    Press the Menu button, select Settings, select System, then select Manage storage.
    Select your storage device, then select Format for games & apps.

I'm using Xbox 360 not Xbox One.

Does that change anything? Pretty sure my hard drive is USB 2.0

If you download something or even just click download and cancel the download, you can re-download said download at anytime you're down to re-load that download.

From what I'm reading, it does change things. Apparently it only supports up to 32gb of storage space on an external drive. The answer seems to be "kind of". You can do it, but it's not really practical because of the limitations. I dunno much more about it than that. I have a 360 but I've always been a PS fanboy so I'm not really experienced on Xbox's abilities or limitations.

thats cloud storage space im pretty sure u can use as much space as you got as long as u format it but ive never done it. Jus do what pota said purchase it for free and you can always download it in you download history or account management

Ive been playing ton of that new metal gear solid its pretty sweet for a free game I mean if I paid money for it i'd be pissed but for freeits pretty sweet idk. PLus theyve basically given me a ton of ggames ive sold to it mkes having gold more worth it. I hope they dont ruin it n start trying to sell u shit behind it.
