Is auto-erotic asphyxiation really that common?

I don't know why, but I just saw like 5 things about it on different channels. A Robin Williams movie, a news story, an episode of bojack horesman, some jokes about it here and there.

Did something happen recently that made this a big deal? Do a lot of people actually do this? Thoughts? :shrug:

I don't think it's all that common. Much more common are people who love being choked as part of kinky or bdsm sex. As with all these things, be careful and preferably don't do this alone; rather have someone else with a sane and functioning brain have this do to you if you're into it.

Not disturbing per se, I think. The desire to be dominated and control being taken away is pretty common. Within reasonable limits it can be quite responsible behavior.
