Death-defying hobbies

I'm trying to find a hobby to get into that will bring me close to death, or at least provide the illusion of such. Lately I've been participating in some risky behavior, when on the streets especially. I just seem to give myself close calls on a regular basis. I know it's only a matter of time before I'm not quick enough to get out of the way, or someone isn't quick enough to stop and ends up hitting me. I've noticed that I purposely slow my reaction time the more it happens, as though I'm tempting fate by being belligerant. So my solution is to find a hobby of some kind that is dangerous, yet less dangerous then racing out into traffic. I was thinking rock climbing or skydiving. Maybe I'll ski this winter.
I guess I'd like to have a brush with death, but in conditions that will enable my relative safety. Any suggestions?

I love to ride my bicycle, and around this town it's pretty damn life-threatening. just riding down the street to campus and back, I probably have at least one close call per day. when riding all over town it's more like every few minutes some jackass almost runs over me or speeds through a light w/out right of way and almost hits me

Skiing isn't death-defying.
Sky-diving is a pretty good choice, but requires extensive training to do solo jumps. It's also relatively expensive.
Rock-climbing is a pretty good choice, I think. It's pretty cheap (free if you're not too worried about safety...) and you can start doing it right away.
Maybe start with relatively smaller feats to avoid plummeting due to naivety.

Actually, I feel like something in the universe has been trying to get me into rock climbing for awhile now. In Texas, I knew a bunch of people who did it and they were always trying to get me to go with them. The reason why I didn't (at the time) was because it sounded dangerous, ha. Then I started reading about backpacking and mountaineering and I would always be transfixed by the articles and pics about rock climbing. And then I often times reading these same articles would come across an obituary for a famous climber who fell unexpectedly to his or her doom on a climb. And then one time I had this fabulous delusion of grandeur about scaling Mt. Everest. I seriously think I might be able to do it, if I were prepared.
Obviously, it'll take some time to get started in the hobby. I could just find the nearest rock wall and start there.

Yeah, exactly, I bike pretty much daily and I almost die every single day. It's worse because I get aggravated and then seem to put myself in harms way on purpose to piss off the drivers that pissed me off. It's like I stop caring about death and get more interested in payback on the road. It's a bad ego-game to play when you're made of flesh and blood and they are encased in a sheet of metal.

If theres any off road areas near where you live, you can go crazy down those trails on your bike.

I bike to commute to work mostly, but I also love off roading! There is a park near my house that has a little bmx course on it, lots of fun hills. It made me think maybe I should get into extreme biking. I have a hard time imagining myself doing flips in the air on my bike, but I supposed it could be an aquired skill.

pongs got it right, except instead of cheating with a long board, get a 2x4 and put some roller skate wheels on it. then see if you even have the balls to atempt a small hill....w/out pads of course...and theyre the best when you cut thru a intersection where cross traffic doesnt stop!!! depends where you live tho for good hills.

I'm not happy reading this from you
I don't know what the question is, but putting yourself in harm's way is not the answer.
Are you depressed? Are there blatant or ever so slight thoughts of suicide? Do you have a deathwish?

Maybe...I have been into death more lately but no doubt because it's everywhere and it's on every human's list of things to do in life. I'd like to test my own death threshold a little. I'm feeling very drawn towards doing that right now.

Lighten up, dude.
We all live close to the edge, but fail to acknowledge it most of the time because of our ego blinders. I think she just wants reminders to help her appreciate being alive.
It's not like she asked for the best way to kill herself doing something extreme. The whole point is to have something she can do that will be a vivid reminder of mortality WITHOUT being terribly likely to actually kill her...
It is a fine line, but there is a difference between being into extreme sports and just plain wishing you were dead.
I'd much rather see Moth "testing her death threshold" by rock-climbing (which is both exhilerating and yet really fairly harmless if you're not too stupid about it) than sitting idly by until the desire builds to a point where she considers opening up her wrists... you dig?

I suggest extreme poison eating.
