Help with fish tank heater build up.

Last night I was tearing down my shroom grow to prepair a little seed grow in time for next spring. As I removed the fish tank heater from the bottom of my incubator, I found that a thick crust of hard water deposits and or bleach salts had built up over the thin glass of the heater.

I believe that most of the crust is bleash salt, anybody have any ideas on how to remove it without breaking the glass housing of the heater?
