Online Community Struggles

So I'll be honest here. First a bit of back story. I love mushrooms; I love picking them, eating them, sharing them, learning about them and 'experiencing them' (or 'myself on them', whatever). So after knowing about this forum for a bit, using the site as a reference for a lot of my information, I joined. I figured it'd help me learn more, share common interests and even participate in other non-mushroom related discussion. Upon joining I wanted to become a bigger part of the community but have had difficulty, this isn't because of the nature of the people here, it's just my lack of motivation to post or a lack of knowing what to say. I used to be a part of a smaller online community which manifested itself in the form of a forum and an online fan-based rpg (which also kinda just worked as a chat room), I really enjoyed my time there and got along well with the people there, and that was probably the first online community I really felt 'a part of'. Since then, that community doesn't really exist any more and even so, I myself have changed a lot since then (I was significantly younger).
Here's my issue, since then I haven't been able to really feel like I 'fit in' on an online community, which is something I really miss, of course there's things like Facebook, et cetera. But I want to feel like the community and I have a common interest/goal, or something along those lines.
Really I'm just interested to hear what people have to say regarding this (and I s'pose maybe this might spark my involvement here) or if anyone has felt similarly? Regards.

I don't think I'll ever feel like I "fit in" here, i'm not even a particularly well liked member.
But I stick around anyways.

This place seems like its great for just doing your own thing. Also, the cliques here change out pretty frequently. I've been a lurker since long before my reg date and it seems that way to me.

We're all here because we don't fit in. That's the beauty of shroomery.

I'd say to OP just get in where you fit in and make yourself a place. Usually works for me anyway.

Its not that you have to fit it just make it so people remember who you are. Get a big flashy signature.

From what I have read around here, the people seem pretty chill (for the most part), I s'pose I am being a bit a clingy to the idea of be /that/ connected with everyone (the old community I spoke of wasn't too big). I guess I will just do my own thing and see how stuff goes. And not be a dick or try to anyway, aha

With a community this size, how COULD you be connected with everybody? The internet ain't what it used to be.

What's been getting at me lately is the insane amount of seemingly younger folk that have turned social media into this place of social warrior politically correct, male "cis-gender" weird world where it's completely okay to shred somebody up through twitter or what have you. It's like its not okay to have an honest opinion anymore.
Don't misunderstand it's not like I don't agree with alot of the liberal stances politcally but it just seems like the most agressive people are the ones you see anymore because their responses are these 150 character poinient responses that cater to people with low attention spans.
Don't get me wrong the internet was always about giving the unheard a voice, it's just now its the most aggressive social justice warriors that just take pleasure in the attention waiting to pounce on anything anybody ever says that gets my goat.

Yeah a lot of people like to use " right to an opinion or speaking their mind" as an excuse to talk smack or project themselves onto others. It's pitiful.

I've definitely noticed this kind of thing. Seems almost like as people are becoming more accepting there's an equal amount of people becoming more criticizing. Just a thought.

Well its creating this space and feeling of a surveillance state because soon there will be no place to just relax and say what you feel.

The main reason I am still here is because everyone is so damn different. There are thousands of unique perspectives here. I love that. So as far as I am concerned, yours will fit right in
