Disassembler

Does anybody know of a good disassembler for intel x86 instruction set? I need to take apart something that is compiled to run in real mode with 32-bit instructions in a windows PE format (.exe).

Hehehe... I remember disassemblers from back in the early eighties. I always thought it was a shame that there weren't any psychic disassemblers that could intuitively insert the programmer's COMMENTS, so that 16Kb of disassembled machine code actually made some sense...

It would be really neat if there was a program that could put comments in SOURCE CODE that I have to modify!!!

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

your in luck... a new disassembler came out recently named rec16lx or something of the sort..reverse engineers code into C-like readable code.

I was trying to reverse engineer a 16-bit device driver for an ancient real-time operating system. I ended up using nasm (open source) to disassemble the binary and then decompiled by hand. Although the file I was working with was an .exe, the actual executable header was completely ignored. There was an entry point at a fixed offset into the file instead. Once I figured that out, everything else fell into place pretty quickly.
