What better way to start a shit fight than to claim those Monsanto boys are alright?
In my opinion GMOs and Monsanto have been demonized for almost no reason. Everything I hear from people opposed to GMOs or Monsanto is either factually incorrect or basically "GMOs are bad, because GMOs are bad. Everyone knows that!" Now I'm not saying Monsanto is run by angels, they're businessmen just like any other but as far as corporations go they're no worse than Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, or Toyota. I'll briefly go over some stuff I've heard.
GMOs are poison or cause disease: Exhaustive testing shows this to be false. Sure you could make a GMO that produces poisonous compounds but most GMOs are very similar to non GMOs. In Round Up ready crops the only difference is that the protein normally targeted by Round Up is slightly modified so Round Up can't bind. These types of mutations form naturally just like weeds can become resistant to Round Up. Bt crops express a protein in the leaves from soil bacteria, the same protein is sprayed on organic crops.
Monsanto won't let farmers save seeds: True. Before a farmer buys Monsanto seeds they sign a contract saying they won't save and reuse seeds. No one forces farmers sign the contract or buy from Monsanto
Monsanto sues farmers when pollen from Monsanto fields accidentally lands in other fields: False. Monsanto doesn't sue in these cases, they do sue if these farmers make a conscious effort to save seeds pollinated by Monsanto crops. In these cases Monsanto is REQUIRED to sue in order to protect their patent. If they don't sue it is a failure to protect their patent and they will lose it. (This could be prevented if Monsanto used "terminator seeds" but Monsanto promised never to use them due to public outcry and the fact that the no seed saving contract did effectively the same thing.)
Now I'm sure this will incite some disagreement. I'm sure no one will listen to this but how about if you have a claim you try to support it with a reputable source (FDA, USDA, scientific journal) basically anything other than a blog or website called GMOsAreEvil.com

Yes, there have been no verifiable evidence that GMO's are all that dangerous. The problem is is that they've engineered crops to be able to resist Round-up, which is also made by Monsanto. That stuff is bad news all around. It's getting into our water supplies, and there's been a few studies done that seems to link it to the rise in Autistic children we're seeing today.

One of my biggest concerns with GMO's and pesticides is long term effects. Both on a psychical and environmental level.
No matter how many "studies" they perform we won't know the full long term effects until it is too late in many cases.
Especially if people are as stubborn as they are.
Sure clearly if something is GMO it isn't automatically bad but there are so many factors. On top of all the synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that are very toxic.
-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free
