My protest at the movies
    #2175376 - 12/13/03 09:06 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I went to see Bad Santa tonight.  Before the previews, they run the "responsibility, the anti-drug" commercial where the toddler is playing by the pool.  "Just tell her parents you weren't watching..."
yeah yeah yeah
So I yell "How about putting a gate around that pool?"  expecting some support.  Comeplete silence...talk about akward.

    Oh well, I tried.

I wasn't trying to be clever. That's how I honestly feel. What kind of shitty parents have an inground pool that is totally insecure with children in the house? Same thing with the kid that shoots the other kid in the face. Ummmm gun safety?

Some idiots would probably believe it to be a real anti drug ad though.

Nah you gotta go for the old lady sitting in her living room harmlessly smoking a joint, then the dea busts in and shoots her in the head, creating a fine shower of crimson pulp angle.. main agent says good work boys, another criminal thwarted.. fade out..

Harmless?

Ok, so a infant plays around an inground pool. He or she falls in and drowns. This is a very tragic circumstance. I'm sure this senerio plays out thousands of times each year in the United States alone. I don't know the statictics on childeren drowning in pools or what the leading circumstance are, but I highly doubt a significant number of childern die in a pool because some parent or babysitter was off getting high. I'm not doubting that it happens, but I'm sure it happens more often when a parent decides to watch TV, clean the house, making dinner, cutting the grass, talking on the phone, etc.

These are the type of antidrug propaganda ads that just don't sit well with me.

I remember when I went and saw The Two Towers last december that commercial came on where the three guys are at the drive thru and then end up hitting the girl on the bike. The entire theater started laughing......it was quite a moment.

That figures, half the people who go to see LOTR are usually on SOMETHING.
It's strange, cause here I've NEVER seen an anti drug ad before a movie.

Yeah, I was stoned as shit if I remember correctly and mainly it was high school kids.
I watched it on shrooms one time, it was so weird. I was always saying "Wait, is that supposed to be there?"

Yeah they have those things during the previews now.

They had the one where the kid shot the other kid when I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I said my bogart line but everyone was talking through the beginning commercial things not really payin attention so no one heard it.  I'm sure I would have gottan a few chuckles.
