A: You would have to eat enough mushrooms to rip your stomach open, because that is the only way that eating mush can kill you.* This is because it is physically impossible for you to eat enough mushrooms to overdose.

* or if the mush is contaminated. Make sure to ensure the quality of the mushrooms! Or if you do stupid things, but that is YOUR fault. :wink:

I can't imagine how much one would have to consume to die, in the physical sense. However, in the mental sense, death is a very real part of eatting psychedelic mushrooms. Ego loss is the death and rebirth of ones self. Sometimes it takes a lot of mushrooms to gain ego loss, and sometimes it just takes a small amount and the mindset to get yourself there.

I believe it was in "The Brotherhood of Eternal Love" where someone OD'd on pure psilocybin. As for the good ol mushies themselves? I've heard 'your own body weight' in shrooms, as well as 'more than you can eat'.. etc. If this is a concern of yours, chances are you're going to want to focus on the mindblowingly hard trip you're about to come face to face with, than eating enough to die.

On a side note, the psychedelic library has taken this book off it's site. Did anyone download it by any chance? or.. have a spare copy?

Exactly what kind of evidence do you require?
Keep in mind we are dealing with a Scheduled psychoactive substance, real evidence provided by links is truly inadmissible, and more often than not completly biased.
Although Speculation is bad too, especially when it's biased :wink:.

Apparently, one must eat his own body weight in shrooms for there to be any lethal effects.

7 Grams is my usual dose,
Normally between 6.5 and 7.5 grams, sometimes more or less depending on the potency of the batch.

I remeber a OLD SKOOL member who said he ate 21pounds..... you might be able to find it, with a search.

According to Peter Stafford's book "Magic Mushrooms" the poisonous amount is around 20 pounds.

However you would suffer distention of the stomach before being able to digest such an amount!

Sorry for digging this up, but i think it is relevant to say:

There are several cases where very high doses caused seizures and/or muscle paralysis. This can be dangerous and cause death if vital muscles seize to work (ie. the heart).

I believe that was actually a misprint. Some sources say PCP is what killed him - and I believe that's a far more likely story!

I ate around 10 grams or so my first time, I had experience with LSD, but it was still an off-the-wall experience.

If youre trying to kill yourself with shrooms youre probably out of luck. The fatal dose is roughly twice that of caffiene. I could show the math but I will spare you and tell you instead that for a 180lb man it would take roughly 30 lbs to kill you.

Please dont test that math.

The effects would probaby have you diving off a fucking cliff or into oncoming traffic far before you could eat enough to kill you. They dont do that.

I don't have time at the moment or I'd find it myself, but just plain mushrooms is probably physically impossible to ingest enough to overdose or die from, the real question is what the LD-50 is on psilocybin and psilocin which I know they tested on rats and had an answer.

The amount of potency variation just from batch to batch would make the amount of grams of mushrooms you'd have to eat impossible to answer unless you knew the exact percentage of actives in each individual mushroom and calculated it, unless you're thinking about which point your stomach can't digest anymore, which would probably be somewhere in the pounds region.

Only other variable I can think of is if you have a heart condition, it could be as little as an 1/8th to potentially give you a heart attack or something.

If you meant just from plain eating them, your body would most likely just start throwing up if you were to attempt to eat enough to die, it would probably be impossible to even keep swallowing them.
