crushed mycobags
    #2169764 -

When mycobags are shipped the air is squeezed out of the bags so they take up a minimal volume. Is this bad for growing? Is there a way to draw air back into the bags so they have a reserve to use for colonization. I know the filter patch is supposed to allow for air exchange but I hey mi doots.

it will expand as it colonizes.

By all means, smush the bags after inoculating. Inoculate between the substrate and the plastic, suirt the spores on the plastic of the bag near the injection port... then mush the bag... mush it 'till it has the consistency of potting soil.

Bags are strong, they can take a mashing.

Mush the bag well again at 20% colonization, make sure you mix the myc all through the bag. break the mycelia up well, it may look like it vanishes... trust me, it is still there.

Mash your bag again at 70-80% colonization to spread the myc into the last uncolonized parts of the bag... then leave it alone.

If your bag is incubated at room temp. or higher (80-82 degrees is great... bags create more heat than cakes) and you follow these instructions... and have a sterile syringe... you will get shrooms.

A month is a long time for sure, but then again those are some low temps. Try to raise the temp and give it another week. If nothing is visible I would try inoculating again, perhaps with a new culture.
Good luck

What about the air the mycobag sucks during mushing?I think it must be done in a clean environment,or isn't it a problem since it has a filter? Thanks.

That is exactly why there is a filter stara.

I can honestly say... without a doubt, I've never had a bag contaminate because of the filter patch. I have contaminated bags during injection though... by using a contaminated syringe. I've done that twice.

The filter works.

Well, if the bag was contaminated, the contaminants would usually show themselves before you inoc.

Before inoculation, check your bag for punctures, and smell the filter patch. If it doesn't smell like anything, it is sterile. If it smells bad, it is contaminated.

You can keep your mycobags on the shelf for a month before inoculation too. Contams would definately show themselves by then.

I think Mycobag, keeps their bags for 30 days to insure sterility before they even send 'em to you.

Sure you could get a contaminated bag... but those odds are very slim.

I know from experience, you can easily contaminate a bag on your own.

You could probably get replacements from mycobag if the bags contaminate... but I think it would be a hard case to make.

Can anyone tell me what the approx. yield is on a successful fruiting froma myco bag? Basically I'm trying to decide how many I need to buy.

If it's a quart of substrate expect between a dry ounce or two. Depends on how well you do things -- if you fuck up you could get little to nothing.

I am sure someone here can say, but we do not give out projected yeilds for a couple of reasons.
1. Everyone has different conditions in their home and provides different levels of care.
2. There are too many different species that will grow and fruit from our bags for us to test each and every one.
3. Even within the same species different strains will perform differently.

MycoBag -- how much substrate is in a MycoBag? I thought you'd be the one to ask....

Thank you. sounds like the bags are well worth while, especially since people was 40 an 1/7 for crappy shrooms lol
