Somebody Bet Me Money That I Wouldn't Be Able to Pass the Firefighter Exam

Obviously I'm talking about the physical fitness exam. You know, the one where you handle heavy ladders and hoses, wear 100lb suits, and do drills.

I didn't take the bet yet, because I want to get in better shape first.

Obviously I have no interest in becoming a firefighter. I'm too old, and I'm terrified of fires. I always feared burning to death more than anything.

But the good news is, I don't have to try and join the fire academy to take this fitness test, all I have to do is pay some fee (which would obviously be covered, and more, if I won the bet). I read on the fire dept's website that the physical fitness test is administered by a different organization, which is independent from the county fire department. So I can take this exam on my own if I wish.

But does anybody know HOW MUCH you physically have to be able to carry in order to pass the firefighter's exam? How long or how far are you EXPECTED to run and in how many minutes?

Exactly how many lbs are those ladders that you are expected to carry? How many lbs of pressure comes out of a firehose that is running at full power? These are things that I would like to know BEFORE I place a bet.

I am going to eat so many roids IF I decide to take this exam. :rofl: Even if I fail it, I will still become super buff in the process, so nothing will be lost. :ilold:

None of this information describes how many lbs all the equipment you are required to move weighs. >_< It doesn't say how much the sledgehammer, the ladder, the pike pole (whatever that is), or the tools weigh.

I suck at cardio only because I had asthma and used to be a smoker, but 3 minutes of stairs carrying 25lbs at a rate of 1 step per second is doable, and that can be easily trained for in less than 2 months. I can already drag 165lbs, but it all depends on HOW they expect you to carry that weight.

I can already do things such as rope climb, but I cannot do it nearly as fast as Japanese firefighters, especially since they do it hands only.

Edit: I figured out how they want you to drag the 165lb rescue dummy. Looks like since most of your strength is in your legs and back, as long as you can squat and deadlift at least 100-135lbs, you should be able to drag that easily.

these are all guesses, but fairly good ones

you most likely would be expected to be able to carry a person, even fat ones, so most likely at least 200 lbs?  altho this would be over your shoulder or something, maybe its less and you can drag people?

for running, id expect what they did at school, which is run a mile in 8 minutes or w/e it was

not sure how much the ladders weigh, but its not so much their weight as it is, how akward it is to carry them while moving quickly.

the amount of pressure that comes out of a firehose would be equal to 1000 dicks ejaculating, should give u a rough idea

That link explains the test very clearly. It doesn't matter how much the ladder weighs, read how you have to pick it up, it doesn't matter how much the pike pole weighs, read about the 60 and 80 pound weights you have to hook it on, a sledge hammer is less than 30 pounds most likely.

I train climbing hills and stairs, and 1 step a second with 25 pounds gets hard really quick, it would dump most people off the stair mill onto the floor before the 3 minute mark. And it's the first thing you do, and you only have 10 minutes and 20 seconds total to do all 8 events.

I had just talked to my friend about this the other day and read about it, that's why I knew what it was called. He told me the test was hard. He was also a force recon marine 5 years ago.

I don't think you have the necessary levels of testosterone to attain that level of fitness. Of course you could use roids but all natural I'd be hella surprised if any woman could.

Most volunteers who aren't paid get some sort of compensation for their retirement.

Not sure how it's paid. But I know some firefighters who are in the middle of nowhere. They get some type of money for their retirement. The one I know Also host a radio show and works as a guide at a resort in the winter. He is the ultimate outdoors man.

Have you ever tried to lift 200lbs using your shoulder?  Not many people can do this once, let alone hold it.
