Good affordable hitch hiking backpacks? * 1
    #21592307 -

Well I'm leaving June 5 and hitting the road for an adventure that could last anywhere from a few months to several years. With that day just a little over a month away, I've realized that I need to start looking around for supplies, particularly a good pack. I'd prefer something affordable, and by affordable I mean no more than $100 preferably. I'm not looking for the nicest backpack in the world, just something reliable.

Thanks in advance guys, I'm very excited for my upcoming adventures. Maybe I'll meet some of you along the way! :stoned:

u can get old military surplus packs at fleet farm for like $35, they arn't super comfortable tho, at least on me, i think i heard u can upgrade the straps or something and it helps alot.  If your not carrying super heavy shit u can take the metal support out, that makes it like a normal backpack.  for some odd reason tho, half the pockets on the outside have holes in the bottom, i guess to let water drip out, but that also lets small shit fall out too

if the pack smells like someone died in it, you can soak it in vinager overnight, that worked really well for me

Get a military molle bag, it has a lot of bags and attachments to hold slot of gear. It also has a frame that helps your back over time...

I have a 70L quechua one that's very good. Light and great support with a good frame. It cost just a little over $100 though. actually it was 65€ at decathlon.

Looks good, only 45L though I wouldn't go with anything less than 70 for as long a venture as your planning

Since You're htching I would think that would cover you pretty well but While you're at it pick up a medium sized fanny pack for things you need in a hurry like raingear matches and a first aid kit and a zippo with spare flints and lighter fluid. How are you going to fund this btw Day Labor?

This is a great deal and a good size for you. I would use a 75 not a 65 but I am also experienced and a big guy and can haul heavy packs.

yea, probably day labor and just little odd jobs. i plan to spend as little money as possible. this means camping outside, squatting squatting, etc. i will be bringing someone with me

this someone happens to be female which is great because it'll probably equal faster rides and a little less time waiting on the side of the road.

how much does one really need for a journey like this in terms of money? most of my available cash will be going to gear

Get good at flying signs and go apply for food stamps. Both of you. That will be $200 each a month.

And if you get a stove get a jet stove. The ones that use the propane butane mix. Those will actually boil water where most propane stoves won't. But use camp fires as much as possible because the fuel isn't cheap. Propane isn't cheap either
