It seems to me, that once the pollution is IN the air, its kind of hard to get out, ya know?

But you can stop it before it gets in.

Once they prove, to you, that GW is real, what are you going to do? Put air scrubbers on airplanes and fly them through the atmosphere?

No. If you want to sit in the dark with blankets on go ahead. I have no wish to.

You said: "Should proof be forthcoming then let the changes happen. "

Which implies you dont know either way whether or not the ideas behind the Kyoto treaty are right or wrong. Correct?

I said, in which case: "Surely it would be safest to err on the side of caution? "

You said: "No. If you want to sit in the dark with blankets on go ahead. I have no wish to."

This is where logic breaks down. Please explain what you mean by your last statement.

Oh now I see... you believe until there is proof either way people should be able to do what they want....

In the meantime do [not??] attempt to force others to make change when there is no scientific consensus.

So as long as there is an element of doubt people can carry on potentially fucking with the planet?

But hold on, couldnt your statement so very easily be turned into this:

"As there is no real consensus as to whether certain actions are causing real, and perhaps irreperable, damage to our planet, we should refrain from these actions until their safety or danger to us has been ascertained?"

What say you?

I have spelled it out clearly. After this don't waste my time. Your lack of understanding of a simple group of sentences does not concern me.

I do not believe in erring on the side of anything. I make my decisions based on facts. There are differing opinions on both sides. Until there is a consensus I have no wish for change as I'm quite comfortable as it is.

Should I never fly until it is 100% safe? It never will be.

Should I never drive until it is 100% safe? It never will be.

Should I never go out in the dark until there there is a 100% certainty I'll not be mugged? It never will be.

Classic Luvdemshrooms: The assertion that you are right, backed up with no facts or arguement i.e "I have spelled it out clearly" (You have clearly not spelled anything out!)
Followed by the personal attack: "Your lack of understanding of a simple group of sentences does not concern me."

You go on to observe: " I make my decisions based on facts."

Then you admit: "There are differing opinions on both sides. "

Which seems to me to suggest you see no actual confirmed facts regarding this matter.

You then say: "I have no wish for change as I'm quite comfortable as it is."

This seems to contradict your original statement of "I make my decisions based on facts". Perhaps your last statement truly reveals how you deal with the world "I have no wish for change as I'm quite comfortable as it is."

Then, instead of finding an intelligent rebuttal to the idea that your proposition of "In the meantime do [not??] attempt to force others to make change when there is no scientific consensus.
"

Could easily be translated to:

"As there is no real consensus as to whether certain actions are causing real, and perhaps irreperable, damage to our planet, we should refrain from these actions until their safety or danger to us has been ascertained?"

You come up with the brilliant reply of: "Anything can be turned into shit."

As much as i'd like to care about the environment more than I do, I think humans need a mass shift in consciousness first or it won't matter what condition the planet is in.

BTW, Democrats and Republicans are the people holding back the evolution of the human species because they support the WOD. If you vote for them, you vote against human evolution.

what if the proof doesnt come until after it's way too late to do anything about it?

See my earlier answers. Substitute the words "hedge your bets" for "err on the side of caution".

I'm going to go picket a volcano until it stops dumping billions of tons of greenhouse gasses into our environment.

Critics such as Limbaugh quote a few scientists who claim that either ozone depletion isn't a problem, or, if it is, humans aren't responsible. Common arguments are that CFC's, being heavier than air, don't make it up to the stratosphere, and natural sources of chlorine such as sea water and volcanoes add far more chlorine to the stratosphere than CFC's. Scientists counter those arguments by describing the atmosphere as a room with a fan, where winds mix light and heavy molecules until they are evenly scattered. Researchers also say much of the chlorine in sea water and from volcano emissions is removed by rain before it ever reaches the stratosphere.

"In any scientific endeavor, you'll always have a few mavericks," Jaffe says of the scientists Limbaugh quotes. "If you poll real scientists and ask them if there's an ozone problem, 95 percent will say yes."

Are you fucking serious? Dude, that "volcanoes put more CFCs into the air than human activity" line of BS has been debunked many times and many ways over the past few years. My advice to you is not to depend too heavily on information you get from Rush limbaugh, as much of it is half-truths and/or outright fiction.

I've never listened to Rush Limbaugh. Aparenty you're not too familiar with environmental science or you would know that CFC's are not a greenhouse gas, they're (alleged) ozone depletors.

Ozone depletion, and global warming are two different things, not completely seperate of course, but enough to show that you don't know what you are talking about.

Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, and methane, of which humans produce about %10 globally. 90% of it come from animals, rotting organic matter, and volcanoes.

That's a fact. Radio personalities have nothing to do with it.

I know it, but i didnt express it. Sorry for being a poor communicator.

WTF??? Not completely seperate? How bout "directly related"? You're saying the ozone hole over the south pole has nothing to do with melting ice caps and rising sea levels? Who doesn't know what he's talking about again?

well, I didnt know that, so thanx for the info. I thought you were using a similar arguement, but my schema was obviously incorrect. But I do think that human activity does fuck with the balance of greenhouse gasses. Look at the rainforest fires: they are simultaneously killing oxygen sources and putting carbon dioxide into the air. Surely you can agree that is not a wise thing to do, right? Besides, greenhouse gas emission is a balance, and humans are undeniably screwing with it; taking more of our share and undermining the other variables in the equation. 10% is still too much for one species, especially a species that consumes both oxygen and the things that produce it.

Probably because you are neither old enough or wise enough to know the difference good news, bad news and the crap you've been taught in school.
