Cradle of Filth used to be good. Dusk and Her Embrace, and Midian were badass...tripping and listening to Midian was magical back in high school. But their newer stuff is just horrible IMO.

umm... what can i say, there is alot of real good ones posted up already.

try Epoch of Unlight, they aren't black metal, but they have that "serious metal" sound... honestly, most black metal i just call, "serious metal" because it's just so SERIOUS.

try Blut Aus Nord too.

um... try Furze - UTD Beneath the Odd Edge Sounds to the Twilight Contract of the Black Fascist

that's a great album. or try Evil Genius by Abruptum!

Been on a huge black metal kick lately, will try and check out all the recommendations in this thread! Especially been digging stuff like Blut aus Nord, Peste Noire, Deathspell Omega, Darkspace, Altar of Plagues, stuff on the more atmospheric side. I'd be stoked to find any new rawer black metal recommendations in here.



Here's an album I've been fucking with a lot lately, Gris- Il Etait une Forêt. It's kind of grouped in with the "depressive" side of the US black metal spectrum which is normally a huge red flag, but this album just has such a deep atmosphere and the guitar tone is just really solid.
