Anyone ever own a Bufo alvarius?
    #21508488 -

I absolutely love them! Theyre gorgeous toads, I would love to own one.

Has anyone owned one before? Is it hard to care for? I have much experience with snakes, Im sure some of those skills and knowledge will translate to toad care...

I also cant find a vendor with this species..

But if I did find a vendor with live Bufo alvarius should I grab a pair? Do they make good pets? Im not worried about/planning to milk them fyi, I just love the toad.

EDIT/EXTRA NOTES:

TL:DR
Is it ethical or morally ok to make a wild harvested endangered species your pet?

I recently look into grtting a Bufo alvarius, good luck man they rare as fuck and almost aways wild caught

Does anyone think its unethical to steal this endangered species out of the wild? I havent been able to locate a captive breeder and trust me I bloody tried...

The only toads I can get are of unknown gender, unknown age, and wild caught on masse, somewhere far from me... (likely California or Arizona), Bufo alvarious is either endangered or threatend in both areas...

Gorgeous as they are, should we really be fucking with this sacred creature?

I WOULD LOVE ONE. But is even a 50 gallon tank really enough for this toad to be "happy"?

I mean Ive always wanted one too:tongue:, buttt.....

"In California, I. alvarius has been designated as "endangered" and possession of this toad is illegal. "It is unlawful to capture, collect, intentionally kill or injure, possess, purchase, propagate, sell, transport, import or export any native reptile or amphibian, or part thereof. In New Mexico, this toad is listed as "threatened" and, again, taking I. alvarius is unlawful." - From the wiki

I presume theyre legal to own everywhere else on earth. You just cant steal them from the wild LOL.

fishing liscence allows 12 caught

selling or export illegal

found 'bout three last year

can eat just about anything as a full grow small-melon size toad with giant psycadelic glands

anything from mice to pringles

can buy off net for outrageous price($120+)

ive made like 3 threads 'bout this subject already

and you cant find them at pet shops even in its home state unless black market/illegal back room sales..

come visit me in 3 months and we'll find n' & milk 'em

"In their survey of 1994, Jennings and Hayes noted that this toad is apparently extirpated from most or all of its sites in California. This is likely due to loss of habitat and to pesticide use brought about by modern agricultural methods. According to a California Department of Fish and Game report, no toads have been collected or observed in California since 1955. This toad has also declined in New Mexico, but is abundant in many parts of Arizona."

I used to look but I haven't anymore in years cuz there natural in places I go

found a big one in the bushes near my car last year and baby ones near the river bed as well

the one in the bushes was insanely big...double the size of a grapefruit

if you own one they can be loud at night

when I looked I found a few supposed vendors with 'river toads but the price was steep

in AZ your allowed to catch up to 12 and keep or do whatever BUT you cannot sell or export...

the vendors collect them in CA,NM,and even TX generally boring AZ but by now have bred them...

I mean it'd be easy to breed them if you caught a few..@ $140 a pop I guess its goo busness

only thing is you have to distinguish them from the 6 or 7 toad and bullfrog species that come out when the monsoon hits which isn't easy...

if you see a full grown toad and that bitch is huge AF,thats most likely a RT
