Then what?  The same situation is going to happen again if you just kill all of the IS troops.  The region needs stability not more blood shed.


I think the US should give arms to Assad to stabilize the region.  Not going to happen though.  The US is doing a half ass job trying to fix the situation.

America and the West in general hates to accept that the mentality in the Middle East  is such that you really need strong, often bad ass leaders/dictators to keep the region stabilized.  There is no place really for peaceful democracy  that supports human (and women) rights, is tolerant of religious differences and is willing to take militant islamic extremists head on. 

Unfortunately, a lot of the people in the region have gotten stuck in a near medieval mindset that is very resistant to change.

The US is actively supporting/arming/training Takfiri jihadists in Syria with the main intention of getting rid of Assad, so they would never arm the Assad government.

Obama even tried to use the military against Assad but Russia stepped in and said any attack on Damascus would be an attack on Moscow. So that was ended...

The next best thing is supporting a proxy army to oust Assad, which is where the oh so useful Takfiri extremists come in. The US does not want stabilization in Syria, it is counterproductive to our geopolitical goals.

The only help Assad will get is from Iran and Russia, which so far is enough.

And Assad has clean hands too.  Those 200,000 deaths are not his problem at all.  The poison gas used by his troops is just a fable.  He's a good man.

Lawl.

As far as I'm concerned the amount of carnage unleashed in Syria - coupled with the slight US-cooperation with Assad may have the dual effect of thawing relations between the US/Syria so that we -might- be able to gather some resources from them post-war (probably in about 4 years), the other effect being Syria will be so weakened by the conflict their only point of power will be oil exports. Which isn't much different than before. But with a bit of internal machinations the US may just be able to work Russia out of their power-position in Syria, with Russia so busy in Ukraine to my knowledge they have not been assisting Syria in their war really. Perhaps with weapons? But it seems the US is doing more for them. So if they play it right we might be able to make socio-economic gains in the region. For freeedom!!
