Yeah, that's a toughy, since they'd definitely find a really awesome way to kill you slowly

For the record, The death penalty for homosexuality is currently in place in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan, Mauritania, Sudan and northern Nigeria.

I doubt they'd be much different

I know how bad it is, like any sane netizen who's read up on IS and what its about.

Still, stating the obvious (our complete rejection of those practices) doesnt win the war vs the Caliphate and runs the risk of making threads on it boring, having people tune out of thinking along.

This thinking along I think IS important.

Thats why I throw out counterpoints and flippant remarks, to get people thinking beyond the generic.

ISIS did release a video of them throwing homosexuals off the roof of a tall building.

They are assholes, but they are more like a large group of bandits in a lawless area of the world than a real threat to anyone outside of the Middle East.  They will self destruct whether or not the west decides to invade the area.  Supporting Assad would probably be the best option, though I don't see that happening.  They are pretty much what an Islamic version of 4chan would look like if it started an army.

Small arms and poorly trained goat herders don't win wars...  Syria is almost a failed state, otherwise they would have wiped ISIS out a long time ago.  They could potentially launch isolated attacks in the US/Europe, but nothing of any real significance.

ISIS is the tool used to implement Oded Yinon's plan about splitting regional states along confessional borders resulting in small, powerless entities.

Excerpt :
Quote:
The dissolution of Syria and Iraq later on into ethnically or religiously unique areas is Israel's primary target on the Eastern front in the long run, while the dissolution of the military power of those states serves as the primary short term target. Syria will fall apart, in accordance with its ethnic and religious structure, into several states, so that there will be a Shi'ite Alawi state along its coast, a Sunni state in the Aleppo area, another Sunni state in Damascus hostile to its northern neighbor, and the Druzes who will set up a state, maybe even in our Golan, and certainly in the Hauran and in northern Jordan. This state of affairs will be the guarantee for peace and security in the area in the long run, and that aim is already within our reach today.

Iraq, rich in oil on the one hand and internally torn on the other, is guaranteed as a candidate for Israel's targets. Its dissolution is even more important for us than that of Syria. Iraq is stronger than Syria. In the short run it is Iraqi power which constitutes the greatest threat to Israel. An Iraqi-Iranian war will tear Iraq apart and cause its downfall at home even before it is able to organize a struggle on a wide front against us. Every kind of inter-Arab confrontation will assist us in the short run and will shorten the way to the more important aim of breaking up Iraq into denominations as in Syria and in Lebanon. In Iraq, a division into provinces along ethnic/religious lines as in Syria during Ottoman times is possible. So, three (or more) states will exist around the three major cities: Basra, Baghdad and Mosul, and Shi'ite areas in the south will separate from the Sunni and Kurdish north.

The entire Arabian peninsula is a natural candidate for dissolution due to internal and external pressures, and the matter is inevitable especially in Saudi Arabia. Regardless of whether its economic might based on oil remains intact or whether it is diminished in the long run, the internal rifts and breakdowns are a clear and natural development in light of the present political structure.

Source for those interrested.

Look to history. The Islamic conquests were fought by the rugged Bedouins off camel back. Goat herders with small arms and ruthless tactics are the only group that seem to win wars in that part of the world. They were the shock troops of the Islamic conquest in 800 AD and they are again now.

Fair enough.  They still aren't a major threat outside of the Middle East.

Their philosophy is more dangerous to us than the actual ISIS folks. Did you know we have already had Islamic beheading attacks right here in the USA? Its the Johnny Jihads that get so twisted up they actually become terrorist sympathizers and supporters. I see many such terrorist sympathizers right here on US college campuses.

Not entirely true - Boko Haram in Nigeria has pledged allegiance to IS, and there are active elements in Tunisia, Libya area - So there is some greater regional influence. But yeah, they certainly haven't proven themselves to be a major threat to any western countries sovereign lands themselves yet.

I don't consider a dozen or less deaths here and there to be a major threat to our or any other Western nation's sovereign lands at all. We face worse from internal forces. A minor threat yes indeed. A major regional threat to the middle east as well; which very severely clashes with international interests. But yeah, once they start piling up the casualties in the homeland US that are indicative of a major threat .. then I'm perfectly willing to change my view; just at the moment it isn't happening.

How much real human suffering is ISIS creating right now on our planet?  How much violence?  Slavery?  Sex crimes against children?  How much is tolerable in your eyes?  At what point do we as a global community have to step in and say enough is enough?
