The quart jar method does work very well.but it doesn't produce many fruits, perfect thing if you and only you are going to be eating.

A friend of mine used this method the first time he ever grew shrooms. It worked great and he had no contams. He used quart jars without the wide mouth and had a bitch of a time getting the cakes out but it was all good in the end. It's true you don't get that many fruits though, even with casing.

Well, the quart cakes should theoreticaly produce more fruit than say, a half pint. If you're casing, you will yeild the same as if you used the equivelent volume of substrate from half pints (4). Makes no difference what kind of jar it was grown if when you case.

How'd this mutate into the Quart Jar method from Easy Casing?

There are a bunch of easy casing methods, can you specify which?

Re: Quart Jar Revisited.

My distant relatives don't recommend it at all, but have a few suggestions if your distant relatives insist on trying it:

1) Do not mess with the jars at all once you've innoculated them, until they're fully colonized. Especially, do not open them to "tip out" the CO2 until they're fully colonized.

2) Do not add additional water.

3) Do not apply heat to the bottom of the jars. If you must apply heat, do it from above.

Are they bigger than half-pints? Sure, but they're mostly air.

There's about as much rice in the quart jar as in a half-pint. It's about a quarter-pint of rice with no vermiculite.

The jar becomes the terrarium.

Lol. Seeing as I had no idea what the "Easy Casing Method" was I figured i'd reassure his neighbors, friends', roomates, counsins' step brother that the Quart Jar Method Revisited indeed worked.

Easiest way to case is using plain vermiculite.
