Sceletium tortuosum?
    #2137924 - 11/26/03 01:02 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I recieved a free vial of pharmaceutical grade Sceletium tortuosum with an order of B. caapi vine and M. hostilis bark and I cant find a dosage anywhere for smoking it. I also want to know if it is a good idea or a bad idea to combine it with MJ. Any information or links to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. All I have been able to find so far is that people in africa have been smoking, chewing, and making snuffs from it since the 1600s.

I found it pleasurable with cannabis...

Dosages are hard to to come by for sceletium... start with a bump insulfated, or make a tea, add .1g and go from there.

Sceletium Tortuosum (kanna)
Native to South Africa this is a lush ground cover succulent. Commonly know in South Africa as Kanna, Canna or Kougoed (which means chewable or something to chew). Used by the Hottentot tribe throughout history (see link below). Sceletium has been used by hunter-gatherers as an inebriant. It is a very effective and powerful mood enhancer. Much stronger and more effective then St. Johns Wort. Used to improve mood, prevent mood swings, stress, nervous tension, for an aid in treating and preventing relapse of alcoholism, and for its anti-anxiety properties. It has also been known to potentiate and enhance the effects of dagga, cannabis and alcohol. Traditionally chewed (50mg in a piece of chewing gum), snuffed (20mg),smoked or brewed as a tea. The active alkaloids were isolated in 1914 by Zwicky. Lewin and documented by 1934 in his book Phantastica, classified under hypnotica.

they had a picture that looked like ground up sage or some herb, so yeh I guess those africans just snorted the stuff. personally I'd try the tea first.

If you have pharmeceutical grade sceletium tortuosum, I'm assuming you got a powder that's light green to a light brown color.

Smoking it works too...

If you have raw or just dried plant matter than you need to do some work on it.

yeah its definitly a light green powder. I took a few bumps of it and didnt feel much but two of my friends did up a fairly large line of it each and after seeing the pain and discomfort it put them through I decided to not attempt to put any more of it up my nose for the time being. Thanks for all the feedback and advice to everyone that posted.
