I saw that latest east coast swell article. Looks pretty fun! I am looking at moving to the east coast in a few years or so. Looking at North Carolina right now. Maybe Miami Florida since work would be easy to find there. You see sharks often?

I see sharks a lot. they are always there, just try not to think about it. New Smyrna beach is the shark attack capital of the world. It's always a bit eerie surfing there. I've actually had a shark bump me in the face while spear fishing in the keys. I was never really scared of sharks until that point.

Haha I tried to avoid them... We have it of leopard sharks I'll try to catch, but that's about it.  You guys have bull sharks... I don't mind the other ones. The Bull shark is no joke

WOW! What a spot, chooken.. I'm regular footed, so that spot looks amazing to me. We don't have any point breaks where I am. I wish.

Sadly the super bank also comes with super crowds :frown:
I should really go out more often and enjoy what we have though

The Outer Banks is the best surf on the entire East Coast. With one possible exeption "Monster Hole" near Del ray beach Fla

I was definitely eye balling the OBX.  I imagine every other spot in NC would be like every other fickle beach break in Orange County... Requires the right swell/conditions to turn on.

What part of AUS is the super banks on? I would love to move there, but I don't think they will let me keep my 2nd amendment

SE QLD. Snapper rocks is the start of the superbank which can run into greenmount then Kirra on a perfect swell. Theres rumors of someone getting a wave through all 3... Which is like a 3 or 4km wave!! But I'm sure you know how many surf stories float about from word of mouth :P

There are point breaks all up the east coast of Aus (almost exclusively right handers). The sunshine coast is the last spot going north before the reef kills any surf

I have tried it in Lake Erie! There's like one week out of the year where surfing is possible. Closest place to where I live. lol

It wasn't rocky. It was sucky, cold and miserable though. I didn't have high expectations either. Just wanted to say I surfed in that shit.

I surfed out in the Keys once too. You have to boat a mile out of Key West for it to even be possible, and then whistle for a wave all day long.

The hole in Delray goes off so rarely. The swell has to come in perfectly from the East for it to build up there.

Reef Road an hour up the road might be the best break in FL, but parking doesn't exist so you gotta go there with someone that knows one of the homeowners there or get dropped off..

There's a lot of nice beach breaks up and down the coast though. Sebastian Inlet and New Smyrna are both great breaks. Even South Beach under the right conditions can be amazing for short windows of time.

That's crazy. 20 years surfing and living in FL and only heard about the offshore reefbreak in Key West from a handful of people. It's almost like a mythical place.

I love the surfing scene in Apocalypse now. I'd love to surf those 6 foot swells.

I've surfed reef road countless times. It's not as good as it used to be, but I would still say that it's one of, if not the best break on the east coast when the conditions are right. I was there last week for a swell that would prove that..

I always thought monster hole was the outside peak at sebastian inlet? I didn't realize that it was something in Delray as well. On big hurricane swells I've seen those outside breaks easily triple over head. Hurricane Sandy was a big one.

DMT: That's crazy you mentioned that Key West spot. I've also heard tales about it. I'd love to do that just to say I have. The keys is a pretty cool place. Definitely not known for surfing though lol.

Here's a pic that was taken at pump house (right next to reef road) during hurricane sandy:
