I actually read online that the islanders say kava kava tastes like semen.

Its pretty clear that if you go the places where kava is an ancient cultural tradition and get it made fresh in the traditional way its pretty awesome. But its hard to get the good quality stuff and prepare it properly and thats why most people here get a less than impressive experience. I hope some day to have a shell of kava at a Hawaian kava bar, i have no doubt it will be a great experience. But I agree I would prefer a glass of wine or a benzo over kava, but if you are trying to stay off booze or benzos kava is a good strategy.

I get instant kava root powder 10:1. I just mix a tablespoon into water with a whisk and add honey to it. I don't chug it I sip on it pretty fast though and it's gone in about 10 minutes, never had a bit of stomach discomfort and it always has a benzo like effect on me.

I'm pretty sure you could make a tincture with it too that would probably be more potent but I really don't know, may be something to look into.
