steaming jars with tyvek filter disks - problem?
    #2104285 - 11/14/03 12:06 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

theoretically, tyvek is water proof, but air can pass through.
so if one was to prepare some jars for steaming, with tyvek filter disks. would one need to place fiol over the tops of the jars to prevent water entering through the tyvek during the heating/cooling process?

Its waterproof, but, steamproof...? hmm.

I'd be worried about water from the jars escaping and drying them out.

You should just go buy a $5.00 pack of foil and play it safe.

Tyvek is not steam resistant. It's being sold as isolation material that lets humidity trough.
I never had problem with sterilization and I didn't notice any change in the substrate water content. The only problem is that the jars slowly dry out if the incubation period is too long - like when you incubate Mexicana for sclerotia.
