Incubator = Wow!
    #2101048 -

Mr. Anderson recently purchased a syringe of Golden Teacher spores and 4 grain bags from MycoBag. He made up 5 PF tek style jars to use up the rest of the syringe and after inoculation put them all in his homemade incubator (One of those double rubbermaid deals heated with an aquarium heater) This was 9 days ago.

Having previously done a grain bag by just plopping it in the back of his closet, he wasn't expecting to see growth for a few weeks...

Well, he checked the incubator 3 days ago and 3 jars had visible mycelium and 2 bags were showing some growth as well. He tried to shake up the jars with no luck (BRF cakes don't seem to want to shake) and broke up all of the bags to mix them up.

Today he checked everything again and WOW! All but one jar has mycelium going nuts and in two cases it's bigger than a 50 cent piece. One new bag has mycelium and one of the old bags looks to be about 60 percent colonized already!

The incubator was only $25 (2 rubbermaids @ $5 each and a $15 aquarium heater) and it's proving to be more than worth it!

mobiusrunner, agreed. Someone started with no incubator-- well -- no real heater at least -- once it was set up as described, (magash style) results were astonishing. Theres some GT in there 100% colonized in 8 days. 8 days! -- insane.

I was told to do the same method for my fruiting chamber, will this work or will it get too warm?

you just have to lower the temperature on the heater to the optimal temp for you strain at fruiting, usually around 70 degrees.

incubators are definitely worth it. neo made himself a hippie3 incubator (aquarium heater submerged in fruit juice jug in a styrofoam cooler) for less than $20 and his quart grain jars go apeshit. he did a grain to grain inoculation 2 days ago and he says his jars will probably be done or very close by the 10th day.
