That's true, but impulse spending implies you bought something you never wanted or needed, and thus never used. I'm talking about people who deliberately take advantage of this policy, and return things that are old and used.

Sounds like a good way to avoid outright theft. These people would have just stolen it probably. And these are exactly the lazy ass motherfuckers who forget to return shit anyways.

Are you talking about Santouka Ramen? That's not even the best ramen IMO; for tonkotsu ramen, I think theirs is too greasy.

Mhm...Unfortunately ramen isn't really easily available without having to drive a pretty significant distance around here so I admittedly have only been able to try a handful (maybe 5-6 different places?) of restaurants in and around Chicago. Of those only perhaps two of them compared to Santouka at the Mitsuwa food court :imo:

Yeah, I'm moving to Philly next week and apparently there's not many good Japanese places around there. I only found one ramen place, and who knows if it's even a real ramen shop. It could be run by a Thai or Filipino or Korean person for all I know.

There's no Mitsuwa in Philly too. :frown:

BTW, what kind of ramen do you get at Santouka? I always got their spicy one… maybe that's why mine was so greasy. I should just try plain tonkotsu next time.

All I know is that there is no Mitsuwa or Kinokuniya or Japanese markets in Philly. There is however, a H-Mart (Korean supermarket), and at least one really nice Korean sauna. So I'm assuming there are lots of Koreans in Philly.

The only Japanese food I'll probably eat is at Iron Chef Morimoto's place in Philly. That seems to be the only real Japanese-owned place.

He can open a place called "Dick's," and tell everybody off. People will pay to come and get treated like shit. And yes, there is a real restaurant in San Diego that operates off that concept. People go to pay to eat and served by waitstaff that call them jerk-offs and goons.

I'm pretty fond of both the salt ramen and the one they make with pork jowl. Their actual names are currently escaping me but I love both. If I had to pick one...probably the pork jowl one if only because of how rare it is to actually come across a restaurant that serves it. Probably for the best that I'm in the western Chicago suburbs...if I actually lived in or closer to Chicago itself I'd wind up blowing every paycheck on all the delicious Japanese/Korean/Thai/Cuban/Arabic/etc food that you simply can't find in Aurora, Dekalb, or Elgin.

If Philly is anything like Cincinnati and other Midwest cities, and I think it probably is in this regard, the best/most authentic Asian restaurants are the ones owned by poor families in rough neighborhoods. You won't find them online, no website, few reviews, you have to actually cruise the neighborhood and try them yourself.

Mmm...Chicago is sorta the same way...but usually the quality places get noticed within a year or two of opening and the foodies will all rant and rave about it online. A lot remain mostly unknown outside of that particular community but I tend to pay attention when it comes to ethnic food. Because as we all know, the flavor of the native food of immigrants improves as their quality of life goes down...and generally their prices are low and portions generous.
