Having trouble germinating Anadenanthera colubrina
    #20854885 -

I cant seem to get any to germinate at all. I have tried with probably 30 seeds and failed every time. They always swell up and one time I saw a radical emerge but never once has a seed rooted even a little.

The one which had the radical emerge only did so ever so slightly. The rest of them just swell up, loose the brown outter shell, then rot. WTF.

I have been sowing them in 4" circle pots with BM8 greenhouse soil. I just put the seeds on the soil surface and keep moist, as per most directions I have read. A few times I tried adding a very thin layer of vermiculite on the soil surface with the seeds to try and help increase moisture retention near the seeds.

Literally I have waisted 30 or so A. colubrina seeds. I use a germ chamber which is basically a monotub with bottom heat. The humidity is kept around 70% and the temp is about 68*.

Its frustrating because Ive never had trouble germinating anything before. What can I do to change my methods and get germination?

Thanks!

I should say I haven't had experience personally with this, but I've read that you need at least 75* temps and the seeds rot easily, so don't overwater.  sounds like maybe you're keeping too moist and it's not warm enough?

I have not tried raising the temp but I have experimented with different moisture levels. Im sure being too wet is not the problem, perhaps temp though.

Tis' a tropical, perhaps the temp like you said.
I read about planting sideways when I attempted yopo last year, I know
that's not gonna be a game changer. Still worth letting you know, though.

Dude what is the picture in your sig? I like it

I lay them flat usually but have tried planting them just deep enough to keep them standing (1cm deep) with the radical end facing down obviously. I have also tried the same method but on their edge, this is in effect the exact same as planting them flat on their side.

It's a big stone ring I made that I've been piling all my plants in that froze, or were going to freeze. Pile of waste ended up being a work of art
