Gatorade as a sports drink is false advertisement

Gatorade is said to be a sports drink because it supposedly replenishes your electrolytes which is awesome and healthy.

The electrolytes it contains are 1% of your RDV of potassium and 10% of your RDV of sodium. (Unless i'm missing some others which I don't think I am). So you have to drink 100 gatorades to get your daily potassium, by which time you'll be trashing your body from all the sugar and sodium.

10% of your daily sodium is trash too, that's barely anything.

So either my idea of the meaning RDV's is way off, or gatorade is barely anything that could he considered a sports drink.

I sort of feel like I might be wrong and my idea of RDV's is way off, because I'm pretty sure nobody ever gets anything close to their daily value of potassium anyway based on the amounts it's in our food n shit. And potassium supplements are only like 100mg, which is only two gatorades, which is 2% of the RDV.


Please discuss RDV's, electrolytes, gatorade, and everything else related.

I'm also pretty curious about this stuff because i'm trying to fix my trashy muscles and i'm pretty sure more potassium might be the cure.

There's no way exercising only takes away 1% of your DV of potassium or that 1% is in any way substantial at all.

Eating a salty pretzel has more sodium than a Gatorade too

You don't lose loads of electrolytes when exercising, but when you exercise a lot and drink a lot of fluids to compensate for your sweat you'll be in trouble without some electrolytes being in the fluids. Gatorade works, it's just nothing special.

It's a conspiracy by the big potassium manufacturers to make people think you need a lot of potassium. Potassium is the worst element.

Actually, it was formulated by a Univ. of Florida coach (hence the name Gator-Ade) from the sweat he collected from players. Basically, it's synthetic sweat. And it tastes like to me too. :argh:

As a sports drink, it does work, as does anything else that contains electrolytes, the thing is you need to sweat a LOT in order for it to be that necessary, an hour in the gym aint going to deplete you enough for it to make any difference, competing at a professional level is about the only way your going to deplete your bodies electrolytes enough to need more replenishment than you would get from just eating a little bit of (healthy) food.
