That's Bosnia in a fucked up war situation, just one scenario, but gives you a taste of just one thing that is possible.
I doubt it would play out exactly like that here and now... it's more likely people would come together and try to form little communities that are better prepared, but in dire situations some people do turn into animals.

Yeah easy to say when you have a farm in some rural community where everyone is relatively tight knit.
For some people that may not be possible however, like in very congested cities.
Although bugging out is more of a last resort sort of thing anyway. It's usually better to stay put unless doing so puts you in grave danger.

I'll see if I can dig up the story about the guy who survived a complete social breakdown in Bosnia? in the past 20 years, when it was every man for himself and bandits were roaming the streets at night killing just about anyone for supplies.
His family survived by bunkering in and sticking together.. in that kind of scenario bugging out is almost a deathwish. But in other situations, bugging out may be the best option. It's best to be prepared for both scenarios.

people that tried to escape the city after the shelling started were
frequently captured, entire families fleeing, one gets caught and is
forced to call to their family to come out of hiding. the family waiting
just up in the treeline watching a loved one with a gun to their head.
they were made to yell that they'd be safe as prisoners if they just came
down. whether the family came or not the would shoot whom ever they
caught, often times that one was beaten, tortured and raped especially in
the case of a woman or a young girl... if any member of the family
started out of the trees they would open fire in the area to try and kill
everyone moving from that direction

some were taken prisoner, mostly women because they were easier to control
and they served purposes other than labor. the serbs were brutal, I assume
the slavs were as well but what was shocking was that many of them were
doing much of the same to people they knew

Yeah well I agree with you.. bunkering in is USUALLY the better option in most scenarios.

Just saying there are situations where that may not even be possible. Like if a Natural disaster strikes and staying there means you die (although don't usually have advanced warning for that..). Or bandits are ransacking your neighborhood and murdering everyone. Unless you are prepared enough to defend.

Bug out bag is a good idea to have "just in case", but yeah in most cases you are probably better off staying put and fortifying.

Also has the added benefit of you can store WAYYYYYY more shit in your home than you can on your back, and don't have to worry about things like weight. You can stockpile hundreds of gallons of water, canned food or whatever.

the problem with bugging out, let's say you decide you're hitting an
isolated cabin in the forests, how many others knew of that cabin, how
many had a plan to hit the same place. let's say 8 did. now if you're the
first there you're in fairly good shape for a bit because you have the
advantage if you went up on foot and hid your ride. anyone coming up the
trail is easy pickings. maybe you dont shoot them and take their supplies,
maybe you decide to make an ally, problem is, that ally could shoot you
while he's on watch and you're sleeping.

let's say you're the second, you're expecting someone else to have found
it and hunkered down, your options are to wait and shoot when he emerges,
approach and hope for the best or give up and find another place. if you
havent scoped out options before then you could be traveling in dangerous
territory. my neighbor and I have the ability and capacity to pick off
anything walking down our road, several at least before they even knew
where the shots came from. we hold the high ground

if the shit hits the fan, it's already to late to bug out. preparation
means you already had a place that was concealed and fortified and that
when you suspected shit may go down you went there and waited, all most
preppers are doing is providing me with additional supplies

Yeah you are probably right, in 98% of situations it's probably a bad idea.

Yep, My plan is to bug in... we have two huge apple trees that produce prolifically, we have a modest vegetable garden, we have a rainwater barrel, hopefully by the time TSHTF we can install a solar panel, a compost, and reinforced doors and windows.

We have hundreds of litres of drinking water and other supplies in the house we could never carry with us.

So my plan is to barricade all doors and windows with furniture and shoot anyone who tries to break in. But we have our car packed with a full survival kit including 20+ litres of drinking water, a complete survival kit, weapons, first aid, warm blankets, firemaking stuff, spare gas tank etc, and we have bug out bags to grab inside the house.

But yeah my strategy is to bug in. Thanks for sharing that story Shroomism I sent it to my wife.

We need for guns, and hopefully if the shit hits the fan we can have a trusted friend come join us for more man power.

I know its a dick move but there are some radicals I know that are trying to get stocked up on scopolamine for their dart rifles, and potassium chlorate, magnesium. They're thinking way too much into it. that is excessive.

I agree that you have to be prepared for the worst..
chances are though I probably won't be home with my tribe or my "stuff" when an event happens. if it is a gradual scenario that occurs over a long time then I'll have everything at hand. however..
a few years ago here on the west coast there was a huge blackout that affected millions of people. no power/electricity for hrs & hrs. I was surfing when it happened. trying to get home I was stuck in the worst traffic jam of my life. it took me 4hrs to drive 40 miles. normally I ride a motorcycle and would have been able to split traffic but I was in my truck because for the surfboards.. if it had been the big event I would of been fucked. same with my family who were all spread out that day. all my prepping and all my supplies won't do me any good if I'm not home that day. they'll just help out whoever loots my place. if they make it past the booby-traps...
blessings

That's why you also need a bug out backpack and survival kit in hour car at all fkmee and each member of hour family should  cArry a personal survival kit as well.

The car survival kit is essential.
