Huge mushroom at base of our beech tree? Grifola?

This mushroom comes up every year, around September, at the base of our mature beech tree. Slugs ate it last year before it had properly developed, but this year it's been drier, so it has developed really well.

The mushroom starts off very light in colour - tan, and the tops of the fronds darken. I wondered if it was a maitake, but the shape of the fronds seems wrong to me, and it's too light. I also wondered if it was chicken of the woods, but it's not really as orange as I would expect it, and it's also growing right at ground level - I've only ever seen chicken of the woods growing higer up the trunk.

It doesn't have gills, it's grown quite slowly over a period of about 5weeks. It's located in the UK. If you need any further info, just ask.

I've attached 4 pictures - the picture on the right hand side shows it a few weeks ago when it was younger, the others were taken today.

Looks like Grifola frondosa to me in the first 3 pics, but I'm not an expert.

Laetiporus cincinnatus can grow on the ground from tree roots. If the fourth pic is of a different mushroom, L. cincinnatus might be what you have there.

Edit: sorry, didn't read that the last pic is of the same...not Laetiporus.

If you have a structure (residence, fence, etc.) located to the NWN from photo 2, I might be a bit concerned, especially if crown distribution is heavy upon the mentioned side as well, and/or if you have children typically playing within the vicinity.

I've never seen that one before. I'll have to remember it, as G. frondosa is one that I look for this time of year. Although I've only ever found it once, and a mycologist ID'ed it for me.
