Backyard, one of my first hunts

It had just rained so I went for a walk to see if anythign was growin. I found about 5- 10 of these small thingies growin so I took one in and got some pics of it.

Habitat - near a tree, on dirt or poop (not sure).

color - brownish, dull,

measurements - no more than 1 - 3 inches tall, cap maybe 1/2 - 1 inch wide

stem - tiny, white, thin

cap - brown, concical

scent - like a mushy

Pics aren't very clear, but looks like coprinus micaceus to me. Do they have little white flakes on the cap? Do they liquifey on the cap margins (older specimens)?

i think they do, cus some black liquid was coming out......yeah. but i found these in nY, and its late october so i dunno...

Ah, 's just my twisted way of saying that we seem to agree that you've found some coprinus micaceus, which is a nice mushroom (I believe it's edible, but I'm not sure, however they're not very interesting) as it looks attractive. Nice find, but no thrills.
