Well, last week we got lots of rain here in my part of GA, and the weilii are just starting to come out again. and more abundantly also. I found more pins than fully developed mushrooms, but I still managed to find a few to snap some pics of, and even a few in my backyard too. When they start to come pop up in lawns, the prime of the season is just around the corner :)
I went out cubie hunting again last night and found only a handful of dried out cubies. But I came back to find weilii in my backyard, so it surely made up for the disapponiting cubie adventure.
Here are a few pics of the American landslide mushroom(Ps. weilii)

I've been searching all over for these guys! I found a mushroom that looked very similar growing in the woods out of the dirt, but it had white/tan gills so I chucked it. I went up to the Buford Dam and walked the trails there, nothing.
I've been looking where there has been a lot of wash recently from all the rains, and on red clay slopes, by the side of roads... I'm coming up dry. Any sugestions?
We just had a huge storm hit tonight, so hey, maybe the wash from that stired up the Weilii spores ;)
Thanx for any help,
Gumby

how far north of where you are at do these grow that you know of? anything in tenessee or kentucky maybe??looks like they are worth a trip..lol
If there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
Gonna wait it out.

Cutting right angle donuts on a dime
and stopping right at my Birkenstocks,

I can't say for sure gumby, but I'll bet you had a weilii and didn't know it. They start out with white/tan gills and slowly over time turn to a brownish color. Keep looking, now is the time to check the lawns of newer neighborhoods buiilt within the last 3-6+ years. The exposed parts of road side hills are good places to look, but you have to find the right one, one that is shaded and not beat to death by our southern sun. Also check abandon construstion sites, places where they started to push dirt around and dig a little, but never finished. If abandon long enough, these places should have small pines and sweetgums on them, and some exposed parts of redclay, these are great places to look for weilii.
Anywhere that recieved construction of any type in the past few years up to a decade ago, has potential to produce weilii. And with Georgias non-stop construction, you shouldn't have problems finding good hunting grounds.
I find these mushrooms as far noth as Atlanta, but have heard of them being found in the northern Georgia mountains down to Macon GA, so I assume they are more widespread than reported. They can likely be found in SC, NC, AL, and maybe Tennessee too.

Hey, Gumbydude, set up your rig and catch a nice Large Mouth or Striper down in Buford. If you get ahold of a gooden', then that'll be the time to find your shrooms. Seriously, the adrenaline or whatever that you get from catching a nice fish will open your senses and will able them to hone in on the mushrooms your seeking.
If this don't work, then post some picks of them Stripers.
Man, it's been too long since I've been fishing.

Haha... I've been fishing up there a few times. Haven't gone yet this summer, but that sounds like a good idea :) I didn't think anyone would know what Buford Dam was beside the Georgians. Did you used to live down here Levi?
Eek... sounds like perfect shroom weather for Georgia... forcast for the next 5 days is rain, rain, and more rain. I hear a huge storm a'brewin up at the lake, gettin very windy here ;)... I dunno how much more rain we can take, it looks like our back yard is about to wash into the creek.
Anyway, I think I'll try looking around some of my friends neighborhoods for Weilii.. Can't seem to find anything here.
Peace out,
Gumby
