Ok. So the swelling is gone. There is some itching, but now my wrist and ankle where I was stung both ache. Like a deep, crampy/arthritic ache. Has anyone experienced this?

I hope you swift recovery my friend,  never been stung before but i can imagine its pesky thing to deal with. Can't remember if wasps die when they sting or not.

No. Unless you smash them which I did. The fucker on my ankle got me twice and was going in for a third when I smashed him to bits. The one in my hand I smashed him and his ass ripped off and left his stinger in. The one on my tummy... Never saw him.

my brother has about the same reaction that you do, he developed an allergy
to wasps over the years but it's not a severe one yet, may never be severe

pretty sure you are having a mild allergic reaction

Yeah found this

Quote:
Allergic reactions to bee or wasp stings can vary and treatment can differ according to the severity of the reaction.

A local reaction occurs when there is dramatic and prolonged swelling at the site of the sting. Aches and pains in nearby joints may also occur. If the bite is near the mouth, throat or eyes, the allergic local reaction can be quite serious.

“Schmidt Pain Index in 1984 (refined in later papers, eg 1990), which ranked the sting-pain on a scale from 0 (completely benign) to 4 (mostly dead)."

1.0 Sweat bee: Light, ephemeral, almost fruity. A tiny spark has singed a single hair on your arm.

1.2 Fire ant: Sharp, sudden, mildly alarming. Like walking across a shag carpet & reaching for the light switch.

1.8 Bullhorn acacia ant: A rare, piercing, elevated sort of pain. Someone has fired a staple into your cheek.

2.0 Bald-faced hornet: Rich, hearty, slightly crunchy. Similar to getting your hand mashed in a revolving door.

2.0 Yellowjacket: Hot and smoky, almost irreverent. Imagine WC Fields extinguishing a cigar on your tongue.

2.x Honey bee and European hornet.

3.0 Red harvester ant: Bold and unrelenting. Somebody is using a drill to excavate your ingrown toenail.

3.0 Paper wasp: Caustic & burning. Distinctly bitter aftertaste. Like spilling a beaker of Hydrochloric acid on a paper cut.

4.0 Pepsis wasp: Blinding, fierce, shockingly electric. A running hair drier has been dropped into your bubble bath (if you get stung by one you might as well lie down and scream).

4.0+ Bullet ant: Pure, intense, brilliant pain. Like walking over flaming charcoal with a 3-inch nail in your heel….”
