The Schmidt Sting Pain Index=awesome
    #11407129 - 11/07/09 09:09 PM (8 years, 13 days ago)

I found this quite amusing.  Apparently this guy was able to rank insect stings based upon how much pain they caused.  I find some of the descriptions pretty interesting to say the least

1.0 Sweat bee: Light, ephemeral, almost fruity. A tiny spark has singed a single hair on your arm.

:

1.2 Fire ant: Sharp, sudden, mildly alarming. Like walking across a shag carpet & reaching for the light switch.

1.8 Bullhorn acacia ant: A rare, piercing, elevated sort of pain. Someone has fired a staple into your cheek.

2.0 Bald-faced hornet: Rich, hearty, slightly crunchy (crunchy???). Similar to getting your hand mashed in a revolving door ().

2.0 Yellowjacket: Hot and smoky, almost irreverent. Imagine W. C. Fields extinguishing a cigar on your tongue.

2.x Honey bee and European hornet:
Like a matchhead that flips off and burns on your skin

.

3.0 Red harvester ant:
Bold and unrelenting. Somebody is using a drill to excavate your ingrown toenail (wtf!).

3.0 Paper wasp: Caustic & burning. Distinctly bitter aftertaste. Like spilling a beaker of hydrochloric acid on a paper cut

4.0 Pepsis wasp: Blinding, fierce, shockingly electric. A running hair drier has been dropped into your bubble bath.

4.0+ Bullet ant:
Pure, intense, brilliant pain. Like fire-walking over flaming charcoal with a 3-inch rusty nail in your heel.

imagine the bullet ant!!!!  I've been stung by a yellow jacket and hit by the bull ant, but some of the others just sound outright ridiculous.  Apparently there's a tribe in Brazil that used the sting of the bullet ant to initiate a boy into manhood! Me ish not a man yet haha...

he's way off, the honey bee would be the 2.x, wasps as a 3.x and the
hornets as a 4.x, been stung by each, I beg for a hundred honey bees and
50 wasps over a single hornet

There are many different types of hornets and bees in world. Anyway, the post was more for plain information and general interest sake rather than 'accuracy' or for critiquing.

I find it crazy that an ant is more painful than the rest.  Will remember to avoid these fuckers!

I never really fret insect stings. I've been stung by about every kind of bee and wasp there is in my younger days and none of them hurt for more than a second. The nasty part is that a creepy crawly has landed on you in my opinion.

I have a funny story about insect stings though.

When I was about 12 me and a friend jordan where throwing rocks at a bees nest in the woods for some random ass reason. The bees came out and started chasing us and jordan got a bunch of them up in his shirt and pants so he came out of the woods with his pants around his ankles smacking at his shirt. It was hilarious.

I've been bitten by fire ants. It's not mild.

Better than stepping on a bee barefoot though. :sadyes:

the asian hornet has a chemical in it's venom that actually intensifies
the pain, coupled with a 1/4 inch sting and normal hornet venom...
I'll take the ants please

I watched a special on the Discovery channel about those Japanese hornets.  Those fuckers are bad ass.  They will literally fuck you up if even slightly provoked.

duno, just watched a thing on the bullet ants...seem pretty vicious to me, they can turn your hands black!

Here in Australia the Bull ant has a much more powerful 'sting' than any bee or wasp I've ever been stung by.

The only really bad part about fire ants is that if you get a bunch on you they all release a chemical that triggers their senses and they'll all bite simultaneously.

Looked into this after having several contests for the longest time me and my friends could keep our hands in the piles.

I have to agree, but those just are the local insects here in the southern U.S.

The hornet is by far the worst sting you can get (IME) with a red wasp a close second
