It's humorous to me that some would rate him poorly just because of his views on how psychedelics should be used. The people rating OP negatively are acting just as opinionated and "in the right" as OP was/is. Them deciding they are of high enough righteousness to rate and judge another being are definitely no better and on no lower a horse.

WHat the fucks up with this term "high horse" anyways? Why does it refer to people that think they are better?Emperor  Napoleon road a horse named marengo which was indeed a very small horse. Was napoleon an egotistical douchebag who thought he was better than everyone? Well...history says yes he, indeed he was. However marengo was a very small horse and therefore napoleon was never even on a high horse...

Or wait does the term high horse have to do with being high? Well as some like to think being high is enlightening so we should just use the term enlightened horse...OP is on his enlightened horse....lets see how he rides it.

So I am totally going to play devils advocate now.....switchinggggg sides tooooo OP's TEAM!!!!! WHOOO!!!! :

Where i live there are many drug users of all shapes and sizes all living different lives. Lets call this place Tatooine, Whereagain. Now Tatooine is off the PNW and there are a lot of psychedelics and there is a bit of a stigma created since many a deadhead migrated to the west during the tail end of the grateful dead's touring.

I want to make it clear abusing LSD and other psychedelics has been happening since there initial use in Western culture and abuse of psychs is nothing new...so being disappointed as of late is a good thing! it means Your seeing more that was always there!

anyways so in tatooine many of my friends abuse psychedelics along with the new research chemicals that have come out. In my town there are the young and niave and also the very savvy and experienced so you get a look at all diffrent "methods" as i'll call it. Some kids who don't know shit get sold "LSD" which was really MXE mixed with 25i-nbome....andddd they end up in the hospital..they didn't even do enough research to find LSD doesnt come in powder form and you dont snort it  This kind of kid would also put just about any drug in front of face into his body, with little to no questions asked....this is called a drug problem and this is also nothing new. Others around here will knowingly sell nbome's on WHITE ON WHITE paper to other kids and drug users, the seller will even tell them its bitter and was only marketed as LSD and the kids buying won't even care, they just want to get high.

One of my friends used to deal. He would always have a pharmacopia of drugs. Legitimate LSD, MDMA, MDA, 5-mapb, a-pvp, 4-ho-mipt, 4-aco-dmt, ketamine, MXE, 3-meo-pcp, shrooms, DMT, 2C's, DPT, sometimes cocaine, etizolam, weed, amphetamines, etc... you name it, sometimes he had it, except for heroin and meth, but he did have meth analogues like a-pvp or 2-fma as well.

People would come buy sometimes just with wads of cash not even knowing what he had. They would just ask if he had anything uppy or trippy or whatever and he'd list them options and answer whatever questions they had and they would just buy the shit eazy peezy without even being able to remember the names of some of the drugs they bought.

This is probably what the OP is talking about. When kids are buying both a-pvp and LSD or cocaine and DMT to experiment with no intention of bettering themselves, or possibly these people just think it will better them without them having to do anything but take the drug itself.

There really is an issue with our society and the view our society has on drugs. Especially that the average user lacks knowledge of the drugs their taking. Most drug users I know don't look up jack shit about the drugs they do. This isn't even disappointing, this is dangerous. It may seem like what i am saying is irrelevant from looking for a spiritual experience to just having fun taking a psychedelic but what i am talking about is the refined issue behind what the OP speaks of. Its not that OP wants people to see evil DMT demons raping us all up the ass to give us a spiritual experience its that he wants people to understand the potential of psychedelics and how they should be treated with respect so that no one hurts themselves. In the end he really is looking out for all of you.

Even if you treat them with respect they can rape you.  There's no safe avenue or refuge with any genuine psychedelic.  And they're not for everybody - even the people they are apparently for, they're not always for.  And it can a take a long long time to figure this out.

Know your drugs.  Practice set and setting religiously.  Forget the bullshit expectations.  Go deep, but be safe.  Feed your head.

Even then, you can do all of that and your mind can collapse.  It's part of the fucking process.  It doesn't matter what your intention is sometimes.

But still, you get there in the end, even if the place you get to doesn't have a name or description.  It just is.

Words of wisdom :strokebeard: I agree. Any experienced tripper knows that it isn't all fun and games. I'm not quite as experienced as some, but fortunately i learned that lesson early on. It keeps me from doing a lot of foolish things i would have done back when i thought i "could handle it". Respecting the substance is vital, though part of that is in accepting the fact that it's not always going to show you the things you want to see. But with proper respect you accept that as part of the experience and it becomes easier to pick yourself up afterwords imo

Yeah, I've had more hard times than not.  In the midst of it all, I often find myself asking why I put myself through this psychedelic blender.  Sometimes it's a shitty body load, other times it's fear, and still other times it is an emotional roller coaster.  Once in a while, it all comes together and is beautiful.  Ya get what ya get...

Mushrooms, and all plants, don't have nerves connected to a brain.

Have you ever heard of people who get a disease that disconnects their nerves from their brains? They completely lose the feeling of pain. In fact, one of the main problems that people with leprosy have, is that they lose the feeling of pain. They can have a finger cut off and not realize it.

Plants also have a completely different situation as far a death is concerned. For instance, if you cut off a branch and then plant the cut-off branch, it can regenerate the entire plant.

Your point?

Is the same as I gave OP.  You're trying to pass yourself off as being more enlightened because you weren't satisfied with just dropping some acid and hanging out with your friends.  You need to reach 'higher states of consciousness'.

Here's a big hint for you.  Nirvana is the cessation of desire.

*edit*  lol damn it, I came up with a better response while running an errand but people replied.  Pretend I said this instead...

My point was that for someone who claims that other people aren't inferior you sure pepper in a lot of comparative words like 'truly higher state' and 'much higher level'.

You are too caught up in the common language of what I was trying to say. Here I use "higher" the sense of "higher pleasures" vs "lower pleasures" using JS Mill's terminology in his work on Utilitarianism.

"Mill delineates how to differentiate between higher- and lower-quality pleasures: A pleasure is of higher quality if people would choose it over a different pleasure even if it is accompanied by discomfort, and if they would not trade it for a greater amount of the other pleasure. Moreover, Mill contends, it is an "unquestionable fact" that, given equal access to all kinds of pleasures, people will prefer those that appeal to their "higher" faculties. A person will not choose to become an animal, an educated person will not choose to become ignorant, and so on. Even though a person who uses higher faculties often suffers more in life (hence the common dictum "ignorance is bliss"), he would never choose a lower existence, preferring instead to maintain his dignity."

However, I will say, a lot of people I've met who take psychedelics don't draw inspiration from them. They use them for a fun time. Once again, nothing wrong with it, but using them has motivated myself and several others to actually go out and do things to make positive change in the world rather than just get a job to pay the bills so that they can go to a couple music festivals a year and do a bunch of drugs. Not hating on the lifestyle, as I do my fair share of drugs, but for some people that's all that life is about. So yes, I think there are better outcomes from them. Someone who goes out and makes change is better than someone who sits around talking about/wishing for change to occur.

Call me an asshole or tell me I'm on a "high horse," I really don't care. There are problems that need fixing and some people are more focused on having a fun time than actually going out and making change.

You're making an assumption that because plants and fungi don't experience pain in the manner that we do that they don't experience it at all.  You're also begging the question of rather or not it's morally acceptable to eat people with nerve damage :lmafo:

Anyway here's some videos on how plants respond to external stimuli.

Yet people choose to have lobotomies or self medicate to the point of mental retardation.  Anyway that's really an argument between Mill and myself and he's dead.

My point is that you do come off as condescending.  The way you used the terminology really struck me as how it's used in many new age camps.  Higher vibrations, higher consciousness, yadda yadda.  We've used similar justifications to rationalize slavery and misogyny.  They're not as evolved as us.  Sure they're equal, we're just more equal.  Women aren't as smart as men, they're just not wired that way.

And again, eastern traditions such as Zen Buddhism teach us that it's not about higher or lower vibrations.  It's not about gaining anything or even pleasure seeking.  It's about losing that feeling of dissatisfaction.  Your friends were happy just doing dumb shit and hanging out.  You weren't.  There's nothing wrong with you wanting to do something different but to claim that your way is some sort of more evolved form of pleasure seeking reeks of bullshit to me.

Just like anything else, psychedelics and other drugs exist in more than one state. If you take it as a drug, it is a drug. If you take it as medicine, it is medicine. The line lies only in perception... particle or wave? In reality, it is both. The best way (in my opinion) to use psychedelics is something you can have fun with, and learn something about yourself in the process. If it wasn't intended for some use, it wouldn't work.

Sorry that it comes off that way I guess, I really don't know any other way to put it. There are people who put awareness into action and those who don't. That was the problem with the hippie community of the 60s and 70s, they all claimed to have this "awareness" but a lot of them didn't use the awareness to make change, they started a bunch of communes/traveled around as nomads/ended up with a day job. Some did great things, I mean, modern computing can draw a lot of credit from psychedelic drug use in that era, for example Steve Jobs.

I suppose that's the main point I'm trying to drive. We can argue all day about higher vs. lower but at the end of the day, whether you have awareness or not, your actions are what matters in the end. I don't care if someone is on a "high horse" if they are doing something that brings positive change to the world. I would rather see someone on a high horse doing something positive than a humble person not doing anything.

I'm not into watching videos. If you summarize them, I'd read it.

Do you feel pain when someone cuts your hair? That's how it feels when there aren't nerves and a brain attached.

That's the reason I mentioned that plants can regenerate from cut off branches. What would a human's perception of death be if, say, their whole body could regenerate from a cut-off finger?
