Sassafras Albidum - Safrole?
    #20489736 -

Hey Shroomery!
I have tons of Sassafras growing all over in my area. I have several large trees as well as many saplings all over my backyard. I believe them to be Sassafras Albidum. I was curious if they contain decent amounts of Safrole oil? Also was wondering if Safrole oil produces effects on its own?

Thanks!

If it's sassafras albidum then it should have the safrole.

I can't really answer your question but I resent you for having access to wild sassafras...

Just playing man...it's always been a "to-do" for me to get a tree or three.

I'm sure if I explored more often i'd find some, I do live within their habitat range.

It's one of the most common trees in my backyard  Ill try to post some pictures later! I would send you a sapling, but I believe they hate to be transplanted :frown:

ahh bummer... I would assume the process involved in turning it into something active would most likely very complex?

That's what i've heard too.

There was a recent offering in the market place for some, but all 3-4 people
offering it up flaked and never posted in there again.

Guess after others saying it doesn't transplant well, they ditched the efforts.

I'll stick to my plans of hopefully finding one at a nursery.

Never seen one at a nursery  but they do grow all around my area so I doubt they would have them here... I would trade some roots if anyone was interested

You'd think they wouldn't, but things like nandina, opuntia cactus, rosemary, datura, and more grow wild here in Tx, all of which are commonly sold in nurseries.

Hi gardenstate,
Please be aware there is no trading in the EG. Use the marketplace for that.

I'd love to plant this species in my area. Where I live is more or less at the boundary for a lot of Carolinian tree species.

You can make a cold tea from the roots/rootbark.  It will have effects, but they are not strong and it takes a good bit of plant matter to feel it.  There's an alkaloid in the roots, called cinnamolaurine, which is believed to be psychoactive and similar to MDMA, albeit very mild.

I've experienced this compound on several occasions, mostly in a purified form, but a couple tea and tincture experiences as well.

Interesting, I'd never heard of that compound.

Only experience I've had with it was some dried bark or roots from a local nursery.

Made a tea and reduced it 3 -4 different times.

My brother and family come over on sundays for dinner and i'm usually a pretty quiet guy. But after drinking the tea I did feel something, I was all lovey and giddy with my 10 month old nephew. Big grins that seemed to come out of nowhere, and a mild come up of euphoria.

Now i'm not saying I was tripping, but I had mild euphoric sensations. Very mild.

Of course there's always the other explanation that it was just in my head...

If you know how to extract the oil its not hard at all to make MDMA. We have a Crap ton of Sassafras Growing wild around here and SWIM is Pharmacology Major  :sunny:  so the SWIM's friends and I are going to have a great time at this rave in Sept. lol

For the extraction of oil from the root id suggest building (or buying if you have the $$ or don't know how to build things) a Cold Oil Press. The oil obtained should contain about 80% Safrole which is relatively easy to purify. MDA (main compound in Safrole and precursor to MDMA) is nice too and MUCH easier to obtain if you don't know much about chemistry.

If you know what you're doing or where to get specific Reagents there are a couple steps you can skip but I'd suggest following this to the tee

Lol If SWIY is going to try this It shouldn't be too hard the hardest part is obtaining the lab ware IMO, However, SWIM already has a background in Pharmacology

Yeah, I don't know who this swim guy is, but man, does he get around. Does some good ass drugs.

Seriously though, I have no knowledge of chemistry, other than extremely basic stuff. I think I've looked into this before and been like... Meh. looks too complicated for me. If lab equipment is required I won't be doing this. Not enough funds to start with.

I'm definitely smart enough to learn this stuff, I just hated chemistry in high school and have not yet gone on to higher education. It's probably best not to be baking up bathtub psychedelics without really knowing what you're doing.

I was kind of asking, "is there a proven layman's recipe?"

But I don't think there is. Or there would be weird dirty Sassyfrass all over the place.
