is "nigga" a racist word?

This dude on facebook got burned at the stake for saying "my niggaz" in one of his photos with his friends.  I pointed out that the modern use of the word is not really racist and people tend to use it as buddy or friend and too got burned at the stake for being "mister racist."  I don't tend to use it as it's a little too ghetto for my lexicon; however, I don't really see it being racist unless the context gives the expectation of racism when used.  I realize that some black people purport to have a cultural proprietary right over the word which seems a little odd to me.  Anyhow, what's your take?  Is it categorically racist?

No, it's used in their music constantly. If people want to use it in their music every other word, then I don't want to hear them bitch about it.

That analogy is so off course it doesn't even make sense.

First of all "Nigga" isn't a word, it's a made up fucking word with no "real" definition. The term that is offensive to Black people is "Nigger" correct? So people take that, throw an "A" at the end, and all of a sudden it is now a term of endearment? How offensive could the world "Nigger" really have been to where you're willing to use it in everyday pop culture?

It isn't a different word, it's a different pronunciation of the same supposedly "Racist" word.

I hope that people start using the word nigga on the shroomery more often and I hope it offends a lot of people, it would probably make things a little more exciting around here

I think less of people who use the word, mainly because of negative connotations and shit.

There are a billion other words to describe your best friends, homies, bros, etc...

A few years  back when i called a black man at the rapid transit station my nigga  he pulled a gun on me,  and said  that "white boys have no permission to use "their" word".
I found that strange necause  my Latin/Asian-American friends can slide through their racism radar undetected , even though the word is for the Afroamerican people to hold as their own and feel special.
My friends parents who own convieniant stores( a few do) and  I can  guarantee that  its every ethnic group except a white persons, who"d turn a stink eye towards an Afroamerican shopper.

White people appear more tolerant of their Afro American coequals  and im not sure if its because they have a slave/racist history in their bloodline which causes them to feel an imaginary guilt for a horrible issue that wasn't  their fault. But they are the primary adopters of young black Ethiopian kids.
As for the other groups which apparently migrated from elsewhere and want to instill traditional values here in America , its only natural for them to be racist , but they can get accepted as a "nigga" by most any group of black people. I wonder why ?

Black people are racist towards white people because they are  frightened of them ,  they  pretend and play a game like their omnicsent and tough,  but know if they step out of line  its back to slavery for them (now anybody lower class will be a slave) because they know white people are smart , bad ass, mo-fuckers  who control , and shut shit down.
  Black people don't like that, so they limited whites from use of their word.
But they love seeing white suburban kids pretend to protray the wannabe gangster image because it empowers their ego, just not when you remind them of their history.
All the time My black  friends call me a nigga & tell me,  "Your not white but , black" &  I told them I'm not no Michael Jackson nor am I George Bush
Personally , I  don't feel comftorbale using the word in serious context because it sounds stupid like. Jigsaw puzzle or something.
Plus besides nigga,  they're much better choices of consistent nicknames to call a person that doesn't have racist connotations.

Nigga is just an opportunity  for black people to claim something as being a part of their own(even if it started off derogiatory)
My expmaple is : Even though eminem is more skilled than "most" Afroamerican rappers , they still call him the best "white rapper" alive &  deny him as being all around the best rapper,  although its potentially true.
calling a white person the best at whats known as  black people's music  is just not their style, the same with the word nigga , it was a word racists whites used on black people , now racist black people deny non racist white people the opportunity to use their word.

Seems to me that being offended by a racially loaded word is most often a sign of racism in the victim; if you get butthurt over semantics you were probably looking for a fight in the first place.
That being said, being offended by the malicious intention of another (whether real or imagined) is something anyone can relate to. Words are every bit as much an action as throwing a stone or shaking another's hand.
This word has become too emotionally loaded to employ carelessly. and is mostly useless in intelligent conversation.
What we should wonder is why we even need an overly lazy colloquialization of the word nigrum to declare our identification with others. Is it employed out of a need for it's emotional impact? Is it a favorite color synonym? We are humans, the same animal adapted physically along slightly varying evolutionary lines due to environment.

Anyways, brah is way cooler. Let's all be brahs.
